No. The moral of the story is to backup your ****. Multiple Backups, on Multiple Drives.

Wallowing in the idea that "My **** is running on a RAID, so its backed up" is just going to come back to bite you in the ass when the RAID controller goes fubar and corrupts or worse, Nukes the drives entirely.

Agree on backing up to multiple drives on multiple sites. My more immediate point was to segregate the user data from the operating system drive. It makes both back up and replacing the operating system so much easier.

Going through the same issue right now with my pc. Had a problem after the upgrade to Win10 with bad sound. All videos played at half speed and the sound was all robotic. Found out Win10 did not play nice with my old sound blaster card. I switched back to the generic windows driver and that seemed to work. Now this past week the sound went back to being all wacky, I found out my sound blaster did an update. Reverted back to the generic driver once again and fixed the sound again, but last couple of days I've gotten the bsod, so after I give it the three finger solute its ok but there is a incompatible driver somewhere that has to be fixed.

My conspiracy....Windows 10 update was designed to ruin old computers.

    Hi all...

Sorry for coming to the party late, but I can help somewhat with these upgrades.

Windows 10 is having issues with Video and LAN drivers, and then other random driver issues also. Before upgrading, you really should do the windows 10 upgrade check, and also google your computer and see if others have had problems. Some of the mobo manufacturers are not releasing Win10 drivers for some of the motherboards, and this includes some newer stuff that you would think would work.

Booting in to safe mode for Windows 10 can be a huge pain in the rear, but I learned that during a normal bootup, do a hard power shut down and on reboot, it should allow you in to the menu where you can select a safe mode bootup. At least in safe mode, you can fix most of the problems.

I am in Huntington Beach, and if anyone ever needs some computer help, just let me know and I will help all I can.

Also, I HIGHLY recommend buying a NAS, or a network drive, or a personal cloud, or whatever they call them today. You can get something like the Western Digital 3 TB personal cloud for around $100, and that gives you access inside and outside your house. You can store all important things on it and you'll never lose anything from a computer crash.

    Go Kings!!

I've been finding some interesting problems with the backup computer still on Windoze...like a disappearing menu or three along with the apps... It's only function now is to play Blu-Rays...and some video/audio conversion programs that don't seem to like Linux...

I like the idea of the External HD simply for image and backup files. Seems a sound investment...and I can also save the copious amount of guatamalen midget porn I have amassed over the years.

At my house we back up daily to a NAS and also a USB drive every 3 months that goes into the fire safe. I lost important data once and learned my lesson.
