LAFC has been the class of the league this season, no doubt, and the Galaxy, well, have not. But I would not be surprised to see the Galaxy come out on top, and here are three reasons why I think this will be a closer derby match than one might expect.

    1) It's a derby, and frequently standings do not play a part in the competitiveness of these matches.
    2) It's not like the Galaxy do not have the players to compete. They do, and coming off an embarrassing showing in that California Clasico, you know (or at least hope) the training will be focused and spirited this week.
    3) We just got Jonathan, Antuna, Skjelvik, and Feltscher back into the lineup. A week playing together again should help them be on the same page.

On a side note, I was under the weather on Friday, so decided not to make the 2-hour trek through Friday traffic to go to the match, and I'm glad I missed it. This Friday, I took the day off, and, despite my above optimism, I'm kind of dreading it. But I'll be there.

Well, I took the hit for ya, as I was there for the Cali-Classico.
I'll be watching the derby from my couch.

Upside: Polenta will be back. HOPEFULLY Rolf will sit and Julian will start. Add those two changes to the back line and the club "should" be better.

    Do NOT start E. Alvarez.

Having Sebs and Party Boy available would be nice as well.

    Well that was something!

I thought after the early penalty they might crumble. Galaxy are still too top heavy but you can’t say Ibra doesn’t rise to the occasion!!

The G’s are in their heads.

First match of the season Galaxy played for pretty much 90 minutes.
GBS looks like he can strategize.
Bradley had no answer and no adjustments for the direct play Galaxy.

Araujo is the real deal. Alvarez had an amazing games as did Polenta.
Pretty much all 11 played top notch.

Of course Ibra is magic when he is engaged in the match.

Would love to see this kind of intensity and play nearly every match.

Will the real Galaxy please stand up!

Apparently we're in Tijuana's heads too..

For getting overplayed a significant part of the second half, they managed to pull through. That was one of the worst (or most exciting) penalty shootouts I've ever seen?

I'm still not sure why this tournament is necessary but I'll take a win.

I was wondering if the G's can forfeit their "Leagues Cup" win, and let TJ advance.......in exchange for +1 point in the MLS standings.

Let me get Garber on the phone........

    Pavon...imminent?

By the way, #LAGalaxy fans, Pav?n didn’t even get on the field tonight for Boca Juniors in their first competitive game in months.

It’s the first time since May of 2016 that he didn’t get on the field for Boca in a game he was healthy for. For me, it’s a sign he’s leaving.

From the highest of highs to the lowest of lows: Galaxy 2019.

Somebody outside of Ibra needs to finish.

How can GBS have a strategy that leaves 6 players in a line in the final third on an attack?!?!?
Nobody is situated for the counter.
CB's are on islands by themselves watching Portland running full speed at them on the counter, with nobody in the midfield. Yikes.
