Gaborik won't go with Kings to China

Los Angeles Kings forward Marian Gaborik, who is recovering from an offseason procedure on his left knee, won't make the upcoming trip to China, coach John Stevens said Wednesday.

The Kings and Vancouver Canucks will take part in the 2017 NHL China Games presented by O.R.G. Packaging. They are scheduled to play at Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai on Sept. 21 and at Wukesong Arena in Beijing on Sept. 23.

"We're happy with the progress he's making," Stevens said on the opening day of training camp. "He's been skating. He's been integrating in some practices, non-contact. He's getting stronger. He's not going to China, and he's going to stay here and continue his rehab and keep progressing along. ... He skated today early by himself, at 7 this morning, and will continue to skate.
