I can still hear that sentence even when people just mention the Gibson homer.

No one in my family liked sports except my grandpa, we started watching Dodger games together early on and he started taking me to games around 5. He would always bring a tiny radio (how grandparetnal?) so we could listen to Vin's live call at the game. The two people are kind of entwined in my mind, in a good way. When he passed away, they gave me his Dodger hat.*tear* May wear it for luck if we make the series.

Let's keep our foot on the gas Dodgers! No mercy tonight in Chicago.
I need you to get that hat on, stat!

I was at the Kings game watching Gretzky and the boys beat the Philadelphia Flyers.

And you call yourself a Kings fan?
at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

That was one of the best sports calls of a big moment I ever heard by a broadcaster. Which consisted of Vin Scully saying absolutely nothing for over a minute after the homer and letting the picture, and sound, tell the story. His call of that homer should be played on the first day at every broadcasting school. Sometimes, less is more. The one thing that always bugged me about Bob - he would talk over the big moments every single time.
Could not agree more. I will never forget that call.
