    Default Kempe for Calder?

It is early to call, but so far he has to be in the conversation in the NHL for rookie of the year. I looked into criteria, and it seems he is eligible based on what i found on the nhl website:

    Rookie Qualifications
To be considered a rookie, a player must not have played in more than 25 NHL games in any preceding seasons, nor in six or more NHL games in each of any two preceding seasons. Any player at least 26 years of age (by September 15th of that season) is not considered a rookie.

Kempe played 25 games last year so I don't see why he wouldn't make the cut unless I'm missing something. What say you LGK?

The rookie of the year race this year is wide open.

There really is no clear front runner this year.

What will hurt Kempe in the running is some of the other rookies are playing with less supportive line mates/teams.

Get back to me in March or April. But if he keeps playing like he is right now he had to get strong consideration. He's the biggest reason that losing Carter hasn't killed our momentum.

Clayton Keller is the clear front runner right now. 4th in the NHL in goal scoring with 11, behind only Kucherov, Ovechkin and Tavares. But it's very early.

Let's revisit this after the All-Star Break and Carter's return to the line-up.

Do we want some of our guys winning awards? That means higher contract demands. Let's just win one award...The Stanley Cup!

He definitely qualifies. There's a reason why the Kings intentionally made him a healthy scratch during the final game of the season last year.

I'm just pleased a forward drafted by Lombardi in the first round looks like a keeper.

Now if Vilardi is the real deal, that strength and speed down the middle is looking a whole lot better.
