Not throwing shade but didn't Vanbiesbrouch, Mellanby and Niedemayer "shock the world" with their expansion success in Florida?

The Panthers were five games under .500 at the end of November, and a shocking .500 at the end of December, sitting 5th in their division and tenth in the Eastern conference. They finished just under .500 and barely missed the playoffs.

The Knights are tops in the Pacific and tops in the Western Conference, tied with Nashville, St. Louis and LA, with two games in hand on the Blues and Kings. Nearly halfway through the season. They'll have to fall off a cliff to NOT make the playoffs. So no comparison, at least at this point. Definitely the best story in hockey this season.

Fair point. The franchise is a wunderkind. but, but, but...Florida had to deal with the two line pass rule, clutching and cherry pickers?!! =)

Florida went to the SCF in only their third year, so that's the bar against which future expansion teams are judged. Yes, when the Kings came in in 1967, because all of the six expansion teams were in the same division, one was guaranteed to go to the SCF, as the Blues in fact did. At the same time, if Vegas makes the playoffs, it's hard to argue that they haven't had the most successful inaugural season for an expansion team in any sport in modern times.

5: Ha! that's right they kind of rode Beezer through the playoffs and then got swept by Roy. Good times.

That was one of the most closely contested sweeps of all time though

Cant tell if youre being funny or serious but will take you at your word. 1996? I kind of remember the world cup games(USA! USA!) and that's it.

A little bit of both. Colorado was heavily favored, they outscored the Panthers 15-4 overall, and yet..The Panthers took the lead in game one and not only was that a surprise, they held that lead going into the 2nd and there was a distinct feeling this might be a series. Then Colorado scored b2b2b to give themselves breathing room and the 1 game lead. Game 2 was a full on blowout that everyone predicted. Game three starts and again the Panthers take a lead, Colorado ties it up but Panthers take another lead before Colorado gets another 2 goal quick strike. So this series goes into game 4 and while on the scoreboard it is 3-0 and the Panthers look to be playing for pride, there was a sense that had things broken a little different this series is 1-2 or 2-1 even. Then the Johnny goes toe to toe with Roy for 5+ periods in an epic game 4 that Colorado wins 1-0 but at the end of it nobody is left feeling like the Panthers didn't deserve to be there.
