This is just my opinion, mind you, but I don't think it's a singular player who changes how teams scout, draft, and develop. A player like McDavid will always be taken first overall. And he's a generational player who has top end speed, top end smarts, and top end execution/skill while putting it all together.

I do, however, feel that the Blackhawks and Penguins have changed the way teams try to construct their rosters. Championship teams, in my opinion, are like the stock market. You have teams who win, just like you have those people who first invest into a stock which becomes popular. The people who try to chase the stock, much like the teams who try to chase the championship construct, don't end up ever leading the pack.

That doesn't stop teams from trying to emulate other teams, which is why we've deviated from size and toughness (2011 Bruins, 2012 Kings, 2014 Kings) to teams focusing more on skill and speed.

Thankfully, I think some teams passed on Vilardi because he doesn't fit in the mold of being a fast skater, but they are overlooking the notion he could still very well be a fast player without the skating.

After 6 games played at Kingston, Vilardi now has 9 points
    on 2 Gs/7 assists, and a 1.50 pts/game %.

His 2 goals are on 16 shots, and ALL of his points are at even-strength.

Right now, he is alternating zero-point games with big offensive outbursts (3 assists or 2G/2assists in a game, etc).

If he can get a little more consistent, watch out.

His next game is against Peterborough (a below-average, weak defensive team)
    on Thur, Jan 18th.

The next night (fri) he plays Hamilton (strong division leader).

    ALSO:

Mike Amadio had a goal in regulation, and scored the ONLY shootout goal in the Reign's 3-2 win over Texas on Monday.
He was the game's 1st star.

    Amadio now has 34 pts in 30 games on 11 goals/23 assists, and has a team-leading +15.

Don't know how long Amadio's consecutive game point-streak is, but it is pretty lengthy
    at this point.

Coming back this strong after the injury and long recovery shows incredible natural ability and huge competitive fire. Can't wait to see him next fall at camp.
