Edmonton will get lucky and buy him out during a CBA extension, or something.

But Lucic fought Tanner Glass over the weekend. Don't discount that. LOL.
Glass was forced into it, cuz his douche nozzle goalie, Mike Smith, got into a scrap with Lucic.

Look at the way Lucic has his eyes locked on his target virtually the whole fight. Scary.

The NHL, it's players and it's fans would be better served by adopting the FIFA model of contracts being discarded upon a trade. The Oilers couldn't trade Lucic now if they wanted to, but if his deal could be discarded and he could negotiate a new contract with his new team, you wouldn't be stuck with so many ridiculous contracts that turn former heroes into pariahs.

Of course it would require players to approve all trades, making NMCs a thing of the past.

Even if it was better for the owners, they'd have a hard time going along with any system that required player approval. The players with their guaranteed 50% would probably thumbs down it because nobody could convince them the escrow situation wouldn't get worse.

Those contracts are team crippling because there is no "performance" needed to justify old deals why all contracts should be re-negotiable every 2 years....could go up or down based on play.

That would be a pretty sweet concept, but the NHLPA would never go for it. It would keep players accountable, and the NHLPA cannot have that!

Glass is a great team player and I like how he went after Lucic.

    Bob Stauffer Verified account @Bob_Stauffer

The Edmonton Oilers chose a path a few years ago...to get bigger and heavier to match the California teams in the Pacific...something the majority of the media and fans in Edmonton were completely on board with at that time...

...The NHL has moved in a completely different direction to a speed and skill based game.
In the future the Oilers will need to focus on those type of players to compliment the McDavid's and Draisaitl's.
Frustrating season no doubt, I expect far better in 2018-19!

The Lucic experiment was a complete flop. That is why Lombardi and Sutter are no longer with the Kings.
