this is so sad.....but in about 45 years, our 2012 & 2014 Kings will be gone, too. Too bad they aren't on separate rings.

    GO KINGS GO!!!

Another 14 years or so, Orr will be gone. Another 14 after that, Gretzky. They say you're name is on the Cup forever, but it's not. In reality, it's on for most of a player's lifetime. 5 rings, 13 teams a ring = 65 years. Long time, but not forever.

I understand the need for this, and I realize that the layers that are removed and flattened are displayed in the Hockey Hall of Fame. However, I would make an argument that there be a duplicate Cup with ALL the names on it, which would reside permanently in the Hockey Hall of Fame, getting steadily taller and wider. It would never leave there, unlike the "real" Stanley Cup.

Yes, I know that it might serve to "cheapen" the travelling Cup. However, I feel it should be considered.

Perhaps it's worth discussing the super elite having their names stamped on (either inside or outside of) the bowl. Right now I can think of 3: Orr, Gretzky and Howe. I would suggest that it would require 30 GMs to ratify names for this honor.
