What they do have is players down the roster who contribute. Not eat minutes until the top lines come out again.
What they don't have is players earning top 6 and top 3 money that deserve to be in the bottom 6 or bottom 3.
That whole team is built with 2nd and 3rd line players. Every line plays the same, and Gallant just keeps rolling them over the boards. Eventually, they wear you down. Thatís how tonight went, we had tired players, and they capitalized. They scored the game winner on a play where Kempe won the draw cleanly, and we coughed up the puck.

Karlsson - Reilly - Marsh was as good a top line as there was in the league this year

The top line for Vegas had 17M/17M/15M last night. Call them the best in the league all you want, but Gallant stuck to his game plan, and they didnít get an obtuse amount of ice time compared to the 4th line, where they all pretty much have 12M.

They can roll 4, and our bench is a whole lot shorter. Clifford played a whopping 5 minutes. Mitchell less than 7.
at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

What is also fun is looking at the cap hit for both teams are realizing just how screwed we are.

All of the big salary, long term, players are built for yesteryear.

If LV roster construction should teach us anything it's that quality players are out there that other teams don't want. Player evaluation in hockey is for ****.
They literally got to steal players off of other teams. Probably 90% of these guys would have been resigned by their teams at a higher price if given the chance.

I feel bad for Carter having to carry a line with an underperforming Toffoli and Rieder.

I don't think the top line has played poorly. They've had chances including the blown wide open net by Brown. The scoring has been a struggle but the defense plays into that. It is hard to score when you seldom get a clean zone entry. The Kings really miss Drew and Muzzin.
    Rieder is NOT fast.
Compare to Kopi, Rieder is like Pavel Bure.
Compare to LV, sorry, can't use the word "fast" to describe him.
Kempe and DD's skating is more useful than so called "pure speed".

If the forwards could gamble just a bit, while relying on a solid-D to cover getting caught in transition, we would see scoring as usual. Instead we get a team neurotic about not getting caught by Vegas speed.

These two games reveal a few important facts:

    - Doughty can name his price for his next contract and the Kings will happily pay it
    - Muzzin is much more important than most here give him credit for
    - Quick doesn't rely on his D to look like an all-star as much as some people think
Yes, we lost even DD is in the lineup, BUT without him, we are worse that S__T.
We had no freaking ability to carry the puck out without him.

DD, name the price, we will sign you no matter what.

They're not built for yesteryear, they're built to play in a different system. That system is one that you all are screaming at doesn't work in the "New NHL". The "New NHL" system will eventually lose to a team running the "Yesteryear" system within the next 3 to 5 years, and the system you all hated will be en vogue again.

You know a couple of players that won't work in the "New NHL" system you want to run? Tyler Toffoli. Tanner Pearson. The former has average speed and doesn't accelerate well, especially now that there appears to be something wrong with one of his hips or knees. The latter also has average speed, and is good along the wall, in the corners, and in front of the net. He's not going to beat a player one on one, and he's not going to blow by him on the wing.

The other thing that you all were pining for were "Puck movers" on the back end. Insert Fahntenberg and Folin, who couldn't make a pass to save their lives last night, and got eaten for lunch down low and behind the net. A place where Greene/Mitchell/Scuderi/Regher always seemed to excel, but they were too old and slow to be successful in the new NHL.

End of season awards are for the regular season, and Kopi will be in the running for the Selki and the Hart, and Doughty will be in the running for the Norris, but after this 4-game sweep, neither one of them deserve jack ****.
