Another highly ranked defenseman who is a teammate of one of the Kings top prospects can be considered. Ty Smith of the Spokane Chiefs is a bit undersized at 5'10, 175, but he scored over a point per game as a defenseman in his draft year (he was 3rd on team scoring).

What's Slava and the #20th get me too?

What about Toffoli and the #20?
at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

Hopefully Rob Blake is this persistent on the phone on Draft Day!

Most likely a 3rd in return for someone taking Phaneuf's cap hit

Obviously not as good as a top ten pick but thereís no reason they canít pick a very good player at 20. Itís all up to the scouting staff.

RobertThomas, Philip Chytil, and Tolvanen all went at 20 or below last year. Seems like the lack of consensus after the top few should provide some opportunity. As for me, it’s early, but I’m hoping Dominik Bokk drops to us.

Best #20 picks from the past ...

No. 20: Martin Brodeur (New Jersey, 1990) -- Brodeur owns the NHL records for regular-season wins and shutouts,
as well as three Stanley Cups and four Vezina trophies. What he doesn't own is the distinction of being the first
goaltender taken in his draft year -- Calgary took Trevor Kidd at No. 11. Needless to say, New Jersey never
has complained about having to "settle" for arguably the greatest goaltender in NHL history.

    Runners-up: Larry Robinson (1971), Michel Goulet (1979)

Up and coming: Michael Del Zotto (2008), Jacob Josefson (2009)
