    Default Tavares??

According to this guy (who's been covering the Isles for 20 years; article is behind a paywall), if Tavares goes UFA, LA is one of his top choices. I don't see how the Kings could afford him, even if he is going to be a UFA, which I don't think will happen, but he's one of the top players in the game, so they would have to at least give it some thought if he expresses an interest.

They'd have to dump Carts and Toff + and only get picks back to afford him

If its true hed seriously consider the Kings, you have to try to sign a player of his caliber and deal with the cap however possible.

If the cap goes up to 80 mil, the Kings would have close to 10 mil in cap space. If you could sign Tavares for around a 10 mil cap, Id package Toffoli and our first for a top 5 pick and try to draft Tkachuk. Wed still have about 2-3 mil in cap space after all is said and done.

Next year when Doughtys contract kicks in... move Phaneuf or Martinez and insert Clague, who should be ready for the big club. This saves us another 3-4 mil in cap which should be plenty for Doughtys cap increase...

It might get tricky in 3-4 years but this forward lineup would be amazing...

    Kempe-Vilardi-Lewis

No they wouldnt. Only one of them. Moving Toffoli would be my preference.

You get a guy like Tavares and you keep toff, he would put up 50 goals.

So who do you move to make room? I prefer Carter over Toffoli even taking age into consideration. Moving a defenseman leaves us weak on defense if theres an injury. Moving a LW like Pearson would leave us with Kempe, Iafallo, and I guess Rieder as our top 3 LW, which is pretty meh in my opinion.

I like how you think. At first i was reading it and said "damn that's too much change" but then there's alot of logic behind it, although this is a ballsy way to go.

sorry but I think the Isle moves heaven and earth to sign their #1 player and the face of the franchise. I don't see him hitting the open market. Even then he would be looking at a team with the best chance of winning the cup ASAP. Predators, Washington, Tampa, even Vegas.... not LA.
