As serviceable as Martinez is, he is so much more effective on his left side. That Phaneuf pick up is still troubling, the only place on the roster where the Kings had quality depth were their LD's, then they brought in an older, slower, more expensive one.
All I know for sure is that Amart and Muzzin together were a tire fire. Adding Phaneuf made that logjam on the left side so bad that they need to either or on him vs Amart.

As much as I bicker with him, I am in full agreement about the need for a 3C. Its bigger than a winger or a #3 Defenseman to play the right side.
at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

I think its gotta be Doughty with Muzzin from here on out.

And Phaneuf should be on the 3rd pairing. So they need someone to step up and fill that hole on the right side, or go get it.

Tis true. Slow team versus fast team with quick counter attack will usually have your forwards playing more defensively because they can't keep up.

Stats here for context. They really didn't let them play much together.

Those stats appear to be for the 2016/2017 season not last season?

Plus there are RFAs who aren't qualified who may be picked up.

And they have two left handed defensemen who are comfortable playing on the right side (Phaneuf, Martinez).
Mike Green is only 32? Color me surprised

I would absolutely love to hear what went sideways with LaDue last summer. He was essentially inked into that spot, only to seemingly lose it to Folin before camp even started. He is no kid, he will be 26 this year.

It's also the nature of Kings hockey. Their style of play reduces the amount of chances at both ends of the ice. It's a team effort, positioning, breakouts, all by design.

Wow time is flying I didn't realize he was this old already.

I was convinced a year ago LaDue would finally replace Voynov's spot and was shocked when he was assigned to Ontario.

Looks like Blake is giving him one more shot, make or break year for him.

I agree. Same time last year, he was penciled in the lineup.

Seems like he was more of a Lombardi guy than a Blake guy.
