Watched a full game with Rasmus Kupari for the first time and was very impressed with what I saw! Very creative and calm with the puck, great controll and ability to find open space with the puck!

We have something very interesting here!

    Johan Sodergran (Linkoping - SHL), RW: 22 GP, 7 G, 3 A, 10 Pts (WJC Stats: 4 GP, 0 G, 1 A, 1 Pt)
    Jacob Moverare (Frolunda - SHL), D: 23 GP, 1 G, 2 A, 3 Pts
    Rasmus Kupari (Karpat - Liiga), RW: 28 GP, 8 G, 15 A, 23 Pts (WJC Stats: 7 GP, 1 G, 4 A, 5 Pts - Gold)
    Bulat Shafigullin (Reaktor - MHL), LW: 6 GP, 4 G, 7 A, 11 Pts
    Alexander Dergachyov (SKA - KHL), LW: 22 GP, 5 G, 2 A, 7 Pts
    Nikolai Prokhorkin (SKA - KHL), LW: 28 GP, 17 G, 10 A, 27 Pts

    NCAA

    Cole Hults (Penn State), D: 20 GP, 3 G, 10 A, 13 Pts
    David Hrenak (St. Cloud State), G: 12 GP, 10-1-1, 2.22 GAA, .903 SV%

The good: Rasmus Kupari won gold for Finland in the WJC, Anderson won Silver (and was the top scoring defenseman). Markus Phillips, even though Canada didn't medal, was also traded from Owen Sound to Guelph for 6 draft picks.

The bad: Gabriel Vilardi is still injured. No timetable on his return. Wants to focus on his rehabilitation: https://www.thewhig.com/sports/local...uld-have-been; however, the OHL deadline is approaching, and The Mayor is tweeting that it looks like he may be traded to the Ottawa 67's (https://twitter.com/mayorNHL/status/1082436741066158080). The trade deadline in the OHL is January 9th, so we should hear in a day or two. This may not necessarily be bad, but the fact he hasn't played yet sure is.

Also bad, David Hrenak has been solved. His unbeaten record in regulation this season is over.

    David Hrenak (St. Cloud State), G: 16 GP, 13-2-1, 2.17 GAA, .905 SV%

The good: Akil Thomas is on a major tear. He's approaching 2 points/game (including 19 points in the past 6 games). Jaret Anderson-Dolan is back in form after injury and the WJC, scoring 1.5 points/game back in the WHL. Aidan Dudas is also leading his team in scoring. Nikolai Prokhorkin is also approaching a point per game in the KHL.

The bad: Vilardi is sitting out the rest of the OHL season to recover. The other European players have either slowed down or been underwhelming.

Is there still hope that Prokhorkin ever plays for the Kings?

His contract ends this year. Plus Futa talked about bringing him to North America this year.

But unless he changes his name to Gordie Chuckenwood from Saskatoon, WD won't play him.

Good. After some ups and downs it seems his game is at a high level now and maybe his head is where it should be, too. He could prove a very valuable asset. They should do their best to try and bring him over.

The good: Akil Thomas' performance has stayed great, up to the point where he was the co-player of the month for January: http://niagaraicedogs.net/article/jo...s-of-the-month

Sean Durzi, acquired in the Jake Muzzin trade, was named the OHL defenseman of the month: http://ontariohockeyleague.com/artic...r-january-2019

The bad: More injury disappointment. As mentioned before, Vilardi is out for the rest of the OHL season with Kingston (which will end on St. Patrick's Day). Kupari was also injured which precluded him from participating in another European tournament.

Instead of Good and Bad, I'll just post news in general and you can come to your own decisions:
As you can see, we are in the playoffs with a couple of our European players. SKA St. Petersburg is losing 2-1. There were talks of Prokhorkin possibly finally coming back to North America, and so while the Kings may not be able to sign him to a contract right away, maybe we'll finally see some more news to bring closure to this saga.

Speaking of playoffs, Niagara (Thomas), Sault. Ste Marie (Villalta), and Guelph (Durzi, Phillips) have all clinched a playoff position in the OHL. Kingston (Vilardi) is mathematically eliminated, so if he's healthy, he would be eligible to return to Ontario and play with the Reign when his season ends. Mississauga (Ingham) and Owen Sound (Dudas) are sitting fifth and sixth in their respective conferences, so there is breathing room, but no guarantees yet. The last day of the regular season is March 17th.

Spokane (JAD) has also clinched a playoffs spot in the WHL. The last day of the regular season there is also March 17th.

Karpat (Kupari) is at the top of Liiga with 5 games left in the regular season. Their last day is March 14th.

Reaktor (Shafigullin) is about ready to start their playoffs, as the regular season ends on 3/5 and they have qualified. Shafigullin had a bounceback mid-season. After getting only 2 assists in 31 games while averaging 6:43 TOI/gm in the KHL, Shafigullin was then sent down to the MHL, which is the developmental league in Russia, and averaged almost 1.5 points/game.

Next week is the last week of the regular season for the NCAA as well, then we'll see how the teams get ranked finally. Currently St. Cloud (Hrenak) is ranked #1 , Minnesota-Duluth (Anderson) is ranked #3 , and Penn State (Hults) is ranked #1 8.

    News:
Akil Thomas is approaching the century mark in points this season. He has 3 games left in the regular season. He's also 3rd in the league in points/game. The two players ahead of him are in their D+2 season, while Thomas is in his D+1 season. Durzi is currently out of the lineup due to injury, with a shoulder injury.

Niagara (Thomas), Mississauga (Ingham), Sault Ste. Marie (Villalta), Owen Sound (Dudas), Guelph (Durzi, Phillips) all have clinched a playoff position. The regular season ends on 3/17. Kingston (Vilardi) is currently the worst team in the league; they are 4 points behind the second worst team, with 3 games to go. Once the season ends on 3/17, Vilardi would be eligible to join the Ontario Reign in the AHL.

Jared Anderson-Dolan is on a 7 game goal scoring streak. The Spokane Chiefs will get the 2nd or 3rd seed in the conference; their playoffs are guaranteed.

Karpat (Kupari) has the top seed in Liiga clinched. Their regular season ends 3/14.

Shafigullin and Reaktor are in a best of 5 series in the MHL playoffs. He has 1 assist in two playoff games, and the series is tied 1-1.

Nikolai Prokhorkin and Alexander Dergachyov advanced to the next round. After falling down 2-0, they won the next four games and won 4-2 in the first round of the KHL playoffs. They play Lokomotiv in the second round, which begins 3/13.

Linkopings (Sodergran) has gone 1-10 in its last 11 games and is in a must-win situation in order to have a chance to make the playoffs.
