So, the new coach boost lasted for all of two games. Now it looks like the the Kings have re-regressed.
What's the next move, Blake?
We got probs
Lol at the Kings org touting Desjardins as some kind of game changer. Can't shine a turd into gold.
The firing of Stevens was simply a move by Blake to keep his own job. He had to do something else Robitaille would be pressured from ownership to dump him. Not that he's the one to blame for this year's team. Dean Lombardi assembled the team that won the Cups but after the 2014 Cup he fell into the trap of trying to keep the team intact and ended up piling up bad contracts. I don't expect the Kings under Willie Desjardins to be significantly different than under John Stevens. If they're still under .500 after the holidays then its a busted season, no question.
Last I checked they were also the worst in the league. Do they still have their 1st rounder for 2019? And if so is there anyone draftable at #1 ready to play next year? Remember that last time they were at/near the bottom of the league they got Doughty at #2. This time around they need a speedy scorer.
As far as trades during this season, I figure that Kopi, Doughty, Quick and Kovalchuk would have to stay given their salaries and length of contracts. Brown is playing better but he has one of those bad contracts that no other team would take on. I figure the main candidates to be dealt for prospects and picks would be Carter, Lewis, Muzzin, Budaj and Campbell. Not that all of them would be dealt, but IMO that's what the Kings have that might attract attention come February.
