I think it's Toffoli - Although I'm nervous what Blake will ask for in return.

Carter and Toffoli seem the most likely to me.

    Better question is when?

    Pre-Trade Deadline:
    -Toffoli
    -Forbort

    At-Trade Deadline:
    -Carter
    -Muzzin
    -Martinez
    -Lewis
-Kopitar (if price is right & waive NMC)

With all of these "anchor" contracts, are we relegated to trading whoever we can now and then hoping to get rid of some more of these problem contracts via the Seattle expansion team?

The return beyond just dumping his cap hit is a bonafide bonus.
at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

I completely disagree. The need for cap space is well below the need to rebuild the asset list. There is no reason to trade Toffoli, or Pearson for that matter, if the important needs aren't addressed. What is Blake going to do with cap space, other than make another poor decision on a veteran player?

Not to mention Matthews could be the first guy offer sheeted. The Leafs are going to have to face a tremendous poison pill if they don't do his deal soon ... which will put all the pressure on keeping Marner somehow ...
