Like I posted in the other thread, 4th line grinders and 3rd pair pylons have no trade value. Even less when with term on their contract.
    Kubrick
The Kings roster is like a late stage game of Tetris. What they really need is a long skinny piece but all we keep getting are Kyle Clifford and Nate Thompson shaped blocks.

Good for Thompson, he seems like a good dude.

This is from 2012. I don't know if you were a Kings fan back then.

Take off the rose colored glasses. He's been injured most of the year but Lewis is another one from the old core who isn't getting Any better. Every fanbase fawns over their 4th liners (Jay Beagle is a faceoff wiz and shutdown forward) but Thompson just provided another data point on the trade value of grinders.

No, some folks just don't get it.

Role players are always underappreciated on poor teams. Fan bases devalue their contributions and blame them for not offering more than their position. There is a lot of misplaced blame on guys like Lewis, Clifford and Forbort around here that is completely unwarranted. Their praises are sung during the good times, and they are the first ones criticized during the bad despite the exact same level of play.

Thompson is a level below those guys, and a short timer whose contract was expiring. It made sense to trade him. The others mentioned? There is absolutely no need to do so, and the kinds of comments that float around them are comical.

Did you just compare forbort to a third or fourth-line role player when he's playing top minutes on the first line d?

Some people's heads will explode if Lewis gets a contract extension. It's a distinct possibility. He is good in his role and takes up 1/40th of our cap space. Hope he is a round for awhile.

Yes. Forbort is a role player.

Don't get caught up in the video game line management mindset. Forbort is there specifically to defend, and he does a far better job of it. The fact that he gets first pairing minutes is not indicative of him being third or lower on the depth chart. He IS a role player.

Doughty wants to play with him. Throughout his career he has preferred to play with a safe partner. He broke Muzzin into the NHL, and as soon as he was established and trusted he was moved into his own pairing.

Lewis is good at his role. The problem is people OVERVALUE the contributions of role players and then you end up with Marcus Kruger 2.0.
