Whether this would be a good or a bad thing would depend entirely on the other pieces involved.

What kind of example is that for kids? You already had four or five guys playing "who cares?" hockey last year. That number needs to be reduced, not inflated.

I am not sure an extra pick or two mitigates another lost of year of zero progress.
I think if you're going to add a veteran, you should also plan to cut ties with some of the existing ones.

And by all accounts, Marleau sounds like the perfect veteran to have around a younger core. If Kings want to get their "culture" back on track, he sounds like a good guy to have around:

I would happily trade the remaining 3 years of Jeff Carter's contract for 1 year of Marleau's contract. Even if he is somewhat healthier, Carts has no real place on the currently rebuilding Kings. The team will actually need the cap space before his contract expires. Let's see if Rob can pull off that miracle.

This reminds me of that crazy talk last year of Blake wanting Jumbo Joe. I will say this, having such ex-Sharks players on the Kings would piss off a lot of Sharks fans.

I figure if the Kings are gonna suck for a while, they should make as many moves to piss others off. And if there is someone who's good at pissing everybody off, it's Blake!

This is soooo dumb. This pea brain GM knows nothing but the good old days of being a Shark. I laughed when Toronto signed Marleau to that ridiculous contract. I'll cry if that old fart's contract is now the Kings problem. But this is Blake's team...which makes it a garbage team, hence filling it with more garbage. Stupid Blake and Luc Robitalle.

Let?s see Marleau and Zaitzev and a 1st for Martinez carter/Phaneuf with some koney retained from pahnuef or carter . Helps Kings get an asset plus more room for younger D play. Toronto gets a good 4 5 defenseman and a depth defenseman.
