I really don't see how much it does for us.
If we do nothing his cap hit is:
    '19-20: $5.25M
    '20-21: $5.25M
    Gone.

Just a 3mil savings this year, out of a total cap of $83mil... and at a time when we should be trying to pile up draft picks anyway. I'd rather him ride the pine. I'm glad we have at least some cap space this year, and a ton of space the next season. The Golden Knights are really in a world of hurt for the next few seasons.

There's over $2M real dollars to be saved, along with cap space (delta of salary minus buyout hit in first 2 years). He doesn't ride the pine. He either gets traded, plays or gets bought out. It's so easy even a caveman from Bowling Green can do it.

Except, you know, there's a slight chance the Kings are competitive again in 21-22/22-23...in which case that 1 million could be useful.

And who the f*** cares about real dollars of super wealthy greedy people?!

If this team had any chance of being competitive in the next five years then go ahead, however in reality maybe in 2025-2026.

Ultimately, it's a business. Considering the all but certain reduction in revenue, those $2M may be a big part of staying profitable. I know that hating successful people is all the rage these days, but well, let's not get into that.

Also, with the annual increases to the salary cap, the NPV of those cap dollars is greater than it will be 2-4 years from now.

Dion as good as gone via a buyout. Save $$ and make room for others. Hell, let LaDue play the whole season. Other than DD and Marty, I could give ****...

Yeah, that's likely the reality of the situation. Good point about the cap, though I'm not sure it will keep increasing in non-insignificant numbers...I smell a plateau nearing.

Good point. That's probably it right there. We know they will not draw well this season, therefor not selling as many hot dogs, popcornopolis and piss beer.

From a hockey and cap standpoint, might as well ride the contract out the next 2 years.

LGK might have to put this one ALL on Beckerman.

Probably not the best way to jump back into LGK but I do't really think Phaneuf was the problem this year and if guys like Ladue and others can't take away time from him I have no problem with him sticking around while we retool.
