    I heard somewhere that when Roberto Luongo retired recently his situation forced a "recapture" on the Vancouver Canucks. So why does Carter retiring affect the Kings? Wouldn't Philly be affected instead?

    It's a quotient based on time profited from the cash vs cap hit numbers. The Kings profited the most - I can't recall if he played a full season for Philly first or if the deal started when he was traded to CBJ, but either way virtually all of the contract was played as a King.
