Default Cal Petersen signed to three-year deal

Two-way next season, and one-way the two seasons after that. Interesting. Does this mean the Jonathan Quick era in LA is near the end?

I think that's been the speculation for a bit now. Whether that is this year or next, who knows. Last I read/heard, they didn't have plans to trade JQ prior to this upcoming season.

The expectation seems to be that Cal will take over as starter eventually. I don't think Blake plans to trade anybody. Either the value is poor or why sell when the guy is playing well. The Kings have to have one of the most stagnant rosters in the NHL. As recently as last fall they were touting that they still had ~12 pieces from the Cup team on the roster.

I would think Campbell would be next in line to start.

I heard they definitely had plans to trade him both at the last deadline and this summer. Unfortunately, the rest of the league had no plans to acquire him.

Yeah, but there is no line. Just ask Bernier! The sooner it gets to a Campbell/Petersen tandem, the sooner they'll sort that out themselves.

Quick could be gone via expansion draft if the Kings make a deal with Seattle.

That's a looooooong time that Quick will have to remain injury-free.

Ah, I see the exp. draft is 2021, not 2020.

Well, then it's less likely that is the reason for the way this contract is structured.

I'm not saying it won't happen; just that his injury history will possibly be a factor.
