My recollection was that the Kings would not sign him due to the surgery. The sharks did and he was able to recover with their assistance. The ownership was a mess at the time and while it all made sense there was an aura that the Kings could have done better by Tony through that time.

The organization certainly was a mess at the time following the Bruce McNall fiasco, the team filing for bankruptcy, going through three different owners in a year, and the jettisoning of the old boys club.

Granato was actually enjoying a productive season in his last year with the Kings before the brain aneurysm, and after his recovery he bounced back to score 25 goals in San Jose, which also earned him a spot on the All-Star team.

It was quite odd seeing so many former Kings join the Sharks around this time. I guess Dean Lombardi liked his Kings back then with Bernie Nicholls, Tony Granato, Kelly Hrudey and Marty McSorley.

I just remember being so mad that Tony had gotten hurt so bad playing for this team and for the biggies didn't even bother to re-sign him. lol, in fact, I still get kinda mad abt that. Like when Sean O.D went after Courtnall for his run on Storr. Nothing called on Couirtnall but, Sean got the penalty. Another one, I still get mad abt. to this day. I know, I know, I just take this damned game way too seriously.

Nice countdown. It took me until 22 to realize the days until puck drop matched jersey numbers...

Thankfully he was able to overcome those issues. I love this "interview" Nick Nickson conducted with Dave Taylor.
