Just because they didn't clean house doesn't mean a rebuild isn't happening. Currently the Kings are stuck with a bunch of bad contracts that no one will take on. To dump the aging core you have to have somewhere to dump them to and with these lousy contracts no other GM's will bite. With those players you mentioned its not really the salary, its the years remaining. I really do think we're seeing a rebuild but in the only way it can happen and that's by dumping a few guys at a time whose contracts are about to expire.
Call it what it is, Kings with a new coach and he's an even bigger idiot than our last coach. It's not a rebuild if we just replaced the coach.

    Call it whatever you want....rebuild...etc.

The truth is that the time it is going to take for the Kings to be competitive, let alone Cup contenders is going to be VERY long.

The reason it is/will be long is Luc/Rob had NO plan.....and some may argue they still don't have a real plan, and they might be right.

When Deano was fired, Luc/Rob had A plan: Sell seats, keep trying to squeeze all the $$$ out of the fans as they could.
Luc/Rob had NO plan on how to go forward with the future of the club, they only focused on the present.

There was NO way they were going to move assets to plan for the future. That was NEVER done, still has not been done (Muzz is the outlier).
What we got was Cammallari, and Kovalchuk type moves. Moves that addressed the symptoms of a dying club, but never addressed the root cause: Aging core, old system, poor coaching.....none of that addressed. In fact they doubled down on it.
Luc/Rob made horrific coaching choices - promoting guys that never should have been promoted (and the whole non-sense of "the guy was promised the gig" is just that NONSENSE....he had no contract and new management came on board....he was owed nothing)....
putting coaches in place that have no business coaching in this league, and then hiring yet ANOTHER coach who is ill fit for this club, and may have seen the league pass him by too.

The club now is on coach three, most of the assets have become liabilities while Luc/Rob tried to go for the present day money grab.
The Kings are now stuck in purgatory. They will wait a long time for aging vets to come off the books because nobody wants them.
Uncle Phil may have bought out A contract, but not a big bunch of them. They are stuck.

Any resemblance of "Winning Culture" and "Pride" that Deano brought in has been completely washed away by Luc/Rob.
Tradition, history, winning culture, pride....none of that is on display by the players or the organization.

Real leadership in the front office is what this club REALLY needs. I hope Uncle Phil can see that, and has the courage to fix things.

Please expand on how you think Todd is a bigger idiot than Willie. I do see the continued play of Kempe on the PP to be a head scratcher.

Well, let no one every accuse you of drinking the Koolaid, because this post, especially regarding the contracts, is spot on. But this is how it's always been with the Kings. Once a decade or so they have a magical playoff run or two (1982, 1993, 2001, 2012-14), and then the rest of the time they're mediocre at best. But, at least now we have two Cups, which can never be understated. Imagine how depressing things would be now without them.

I had zero expectations for this team and believed they would be in last place or at least second to last like last year. I am in favor of keeping the young kids in Ontario for another year. This season all along was going to be a throw away year so why would you risk and waste a young player by moving him into the lineup with nothing to gain. TMac was brought in to see if he could get anything more out of the veterans and it looks like its not going to happen.

I like the build up and the expectation of the future. I can't wait for 2024! Excel at where you are and build confidence in your game. Let the veterans play out their contracts while these kids learn to be a professional. Some team at the deadline will want a Martinez and hopefully a Carter? or even a Toffolli???? So they suck right now, it really doesn't have an effect on my life other than watching them lose a 2-3 times per week. They seem to be trying to win?

Expectations were/are low, no question. However, the Kings have been fairly competitive in games with Campbell in goal, 3-3-1. His only blowout was against the Hawks. His GAA/SA are reasonable given the Kings have basically one NHL quality D pairing. Quick, OTOH, has been generally awful with a gaggle of blowouts. He's allowed 15 short handed goals in 10 games. The biggest issue is defense and, with Quick in net, it just magnifies the problems. Soup should be the #1 .

Abandon all defence in favour of what? More shoots on net and same amount of goals. We use to be good defensive team, and not that great of an offensive team. Now we suck at D, and offence improved slightly.
