Default Kings / Sharks whos in worse shape

Maybe Im just looking for relieve from this miserable season but the hated Sharks are on the same downward spiral. Between Erik Karlsson, Burns, Vlasic, Logan Couture and Jones, they have north of $40 million committed to a group of players who are either already in their 30s or about to enter them, and all of those deals run for another handful of seasons. Is it now time to start measuring rebuilds with our rivals? Who emerges first?

Kings have Luc/Rob, so already Sharks have the advantage.

I think the Blackhawks & Ducks have graduated from this group from last season - because those franchises have infused their clubs with young talent who play - whereas the Reign is kicking ass and taking names.

the Kings now have one of the best group of youngsters, whereas the Sharks do not. The Sharks should be winning, the Kings, right on cue, should not.

There is no reason for the Sharks to have a bad year and every reason for the Kings to. Future is bright. For now.

Also we have Todd McLellan (smh) I still don't understand that move, personally I would rather have Pete DeBoer. I mean how much worse would it be?

The window has closed for both teams. The Kings realized that 2 years ago, and began the rebuild. The Sharks don't know it yet. They'll start their rebuild next year, but they'll be hampered by untradeable assets more than the Kings are. The Vlasic, Coutoure, Karlsson and Kane signings will likely result in the loss of top tier talent via trades, slowing the rebuild. If they don't make these moves, they'll be surrounding their high-price players with marginal talent at bargain basement prices and they won't come out of the fog until 2025.

The Kings have the 2 Cups. It begins and ends there while there are still some players out on the ice with rings.

But yeah Luc and Rob... until that changes, or they show that they know what they're doing...

Remember when the Sharks had that really terrible year and miss the playoffs in 2015 and they made next to 0 changes??? The biggest change was axing McLellan. The immediate following year 2016 they go to the Cup Final.

Using this example from SJ, you're not gonna convince me that Luc and Rob know what they're doing when they go out and hire McLellan and return with the same roster as last season minus Phaneuf and Leipsic.

    Rebuild? Yeah Maybe.

Or, were their fingers crossed behind their backs in the hopes that McLellan could convince the locker room to run another marathon?

    Sharks.
No 1st this year, no 2nd next.
Vlasic 7x$7M age 32, already washed up
    Burns 6x$8M age 34
    Karlsson 8x$11.5M age 29
Jones 5x$5.75 age 29, below replacement level
    Couture 8x$8M age 30
    Kane 6x$7 age 28
    All have nmc

Think where they are going to be in 2 years.
This season and next are the ones that the future pain are supposed to make worthwhile.

The Kings roster is like a late stage game of Tetris. What they really need is a long skinny piece but all we keep getting are Kyle Clifford and Nate Thompson shaped blocks.
