Here?s how Youtuber IndustrialVibe described the video.

This is a video I shot/edited of the very first ride on the new STAR TOURS 2.0 at Disneyland, California ? at a private event on 5/20/11. This ride opens to the public on 6/3/11. My video shows the queue area and ride itself, which is displayed for riders in 3-D ? so while viewable here, it doesn?t represent the full impact of the fantastic 3-D visuals you see when actually riding. There are multiple destinations that riders can travel to in the STAR WARS universe with this new and enhanced version of the classic STAR TOURS ride, along with over 55 variables in the voyage and story! As well, you will also see a production crew that is filming and documenting our ?maiden voyage? in certain scenes in this video.

Scary Realistic Life-Size Bust Of ?Star Wars? Villain Grand Moff Tarkin | Geeks of Doom (http://geeksofdoom.com/2011/05/25/scary-realistic-life-size-bust-of-star-wars-villain-grand-moff-tarkin/)

Sometimes you see things that simply blow your mind, and today, my friends, you shall see just that.

An artist by the name of Jordu Schell recently completed work on a life-size bust of infamous Star Wars villain, Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin, who was played by the late, great British actor, Peter Cushing. His work is so mind-bogglingly realistic, you have to see it to believe it. If you had this in your home and woke up late one night for a bathroom run, you would no doubt think that Tarkin had returned, and that he wanted your flat screen.

Click on over to the other side now to see the amazing life-size Grand Moff Tarkin bust, and to check out a very cool video of Schell showing off his talents to some visitors from DreamWorks!

This isn?t the first work of Jordu Schell (who quite fittingly has a pretty Star Wars?friendly name); not at all?Schell has a bunch of works that will blow your mind, which you can see by heading over to his website. And, as it turns out, he?s worked on some gigantic movies over the years?many of which are known for their standout makeup and creature creations.

Is it just me or are there any other Hammer fans out there that think that a Count Dooku one needs to made for a bookend?

starting today you can purchase Random House's complete catalog of Star Wars novels in digital format. Amazon and Barnes & Noble are now offering the full roster of Star Wars titles from Del Rey and previous publisher Bantam, which are both subsidiaries of Random House.

"Splinter of the Mind's Eye" for some hot incestuous action.

Got any particular recommendations?

Any of them done by James Luceno, except Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader. Shatterpoint and Yoda: Dark Rondesvous. The Han Solo trilogy by AC Crispin is excellent. Shadows of the Empire, and of course the Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn, which are some of the most famous expanded universe novels, are good places to start. I may have forgotten a few others but anything not on this list runs the risk of being absolutely terrible

"Splinter of the Mind's Eye" for some hot incestuous action.

I'd avoid this one because it was written before Lucas knew what the characters back story would be so there's major sexual tension between Leia and Luke. Not that it isn't funny, but there's too many deviations from proper Star Wars cannon for me. That kind of thing takes me right out of it. Same with the prequels being really bad. Fortunately the expanded universe does a lot to help this and add depth that I'm sure Lucas is still unaware of.

The Star Wars Republic series is great. It's an 83 comic run with story arks that last 1 to 6 or 7 issues. I found #55-59, an ark called "The Last Stand on Jabim" to be particularly memorable. I'd avoid anything with Quinlan Vos in it. I don't know why, but the writers had a big hard on for him and I never understood why. The Rebellion series is also very good, and it has the bonus of featuring 'classic era' like Luke Skywalker.

George Lucas Helps Scholars for 'Star Wars and History' - NYTimes.com (http://mediadecoder.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/07/03/studying-how-star-wars-mined-history/)

The events in “Star Wars,” the opening credits reveal, happened “a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.” But did similar events happen before?

That is the question posed by “Star Wars and History,” a book planned for 2013 by the publisher John Wiley & Sons. In an e-mail posted in June, Nancy Reagin, a history professor at Pace University, and Janice Liedl, an associate professor of history at Laurentian University in Ontario, asked their peers to submit essays that explore the parallels between world history and Star Wars history.

Joe Johnston Wants to Make Films Featuring Marvel’s Winter Soldier and Boba Fett (http://www.slashfilm.com/captain-america-director-joe-johnston-winter-soldier-boba-fett-movie/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+slashfilm+%28%2FFilm%29&utm_content=Google+Reader)

I’m trying to get George [Lucas] to make a feature based on Boba Fett…I would like to [direct the film], it would be a lot of fun.

George Lucas was instrumental in getting Joe Johnston into the film business, giving him early breaks as a designer on the first Star Wars films, where Johnston helped create designs for many of the now-iconic aspects of the franchise. So the notion that he might get the chance to direct a film specifically about Boba Fett isn’t outlandish, even if it is nothing more than a wishlist idea right now.

Seems like an obvious idea, but would it happen?

Star Wars and sequential art share a long history: Star Wars debuted on the comic-book page in 1977, when Marvel Comics began publishing a six-part adaptation of the first film, which morphed into a monthly comic book. Now, more than three decades later, new series by Dark Horse Comics continue to expand the Star Wars galaxy.

The second book in the Star Wars Art series, Star Wars Art: Comics brings together the very best artwork from the entire history of Star Wars comics publishing, showcasing original art from the top comics artists working in the industry. Hand-selected and curated by George Lucas, the art featured in this volume includes interior pages and fully painted covers from artists such as Al Williamson, Howard Chaykin, Adam Hughes, Bill Sienkiewicz, Dave Dorman, and many more—as well as new work created exclusively for this book by over 20 renowned artists, including John Cassady, Sam Kieth, Mike Mignola, Paul Pope, Frank Quitely, Jim Steranko, and other comics superstars. Star Wars Art: Comics is a tribute to sequential storytelling, a worthy and justly celebrated art form.

The mighty, and awesome, and mighty awesome Bill Hunt recently got a preview of the forthcoming STAR WARS Blu-Rays which are coming our way in a few weeks.

He wrote an extensive piece about it over at The Digital Bits, which you can find HERE. It's quite interesting and I strongly suggest checking it out. Sounds like many issues folks had with the overall quality of the 2004 DVDs are being pointedly addressed in the new Blu-Ray sets - Bill's article has some before & after comparisons of video fixes, for example (fixing wonky/unevenly realized Lightsaber blades, better hiding a glimpse of a Wampa puppeteer's previously exposed arm, tweaking the sloppy digital touch-up that was supposed to obscure the edge of Palpatine's make-up in RETURN OF THE JEDI, etc.)

Here are a few choice snippets from Bill's piece for your consideration:

Regarding the Original Trilogy films, I don't think it's quite accurate to say that these are simply the 2004 DVD masters recycled for Blu-ray. These films are NOT the 2004 versions. It would be more accurate to say that these are new 2011 Blu-ray versions.

[EDIT]

significant additional dirt removal has been done, more garbage matte lines have been cleaned up and other little "fixes" have been applied as well.

[EDIT]

The original theatrical versions of the Original Trilogy are not included on these discs.

[EDIT]

Once again, George has apparently added a few new "surprises" into these films. I don't know what they are and didn't get to see any of them on Friday, but I was assured that there will be "new things to notice" when we watch the films. I think we can safely assume that one of them will be the new all-digital Yoda in Episode I. Way back when Episode III was released on DVD, ILM digital effects supervisor Pablo Helman confirmed to me that the puppet Yoda in Episode I was replaced with a digital version to better match his appearance in Episodes II and III. In fact, the Episode III DVD extras includes a clip of the Episode I digital Yoda. However, this Blu-ray set is really the first opportunity we'll have to see it in full.

[EDIT]

A few additional audio details were apparently "added" into the mix as well. I put added in quotes, because in many cases these elements - mostly very subtle background sound effects and voices - were recorded back in 1976-77 for the original film and were even used in the original audio mix, but because of the poor state of the art for movie soundtracks at the time, nobody's ever really heard these things before.

And finally...

Some of you may recall that on the 2004 DVD, when the X-Wings begin their dive down to the Death Star, the familiar John Williams trumpet fanfare was buried in the mix so you could barely hear it. No longer! The trumpets ring true in the Blu-ray mix loud and clear.

This last point, to me at least, is tremendously good news. That music...and that moment...when the trumpets sound and the little bitty X-Wings peel away to bravely dive on the great big Death Star...is fantastically stirring and roundly goosebump inducing even after all these years. It is, perhaps, my favorite moment in any of the STAR WARS films. It was completely hamstrung by the 2004 DVD's atrocious downmix, so I'm glad as hell that it's been re-applied to its former glory. Well done!

Just play the clip, and then come back.

Okay. According to Badass Digest, this is confirmed... yes, Vader says "No!" as he picks the Emperor up. This is yet another change in the Original Trilogy, and yeah, I'm pissed off about it.

It was already such a perfect moment. As Luke, dying under the Emperor's torrent of force lightning, calls out to his father to help him, Vader stares quietly, looks at his son, then at the Emperor, and makes his decision. And he DOESN"T ****ING SAY A THING. That's what makes it so powerful. You could almost see the thought process behind the mask, as Vader slowly comes out of the fog of 20+ years of evil. It's a grand, amazing moment and the pinnacle of the trilogy, in my opinion.

And George Lucas just ruined it.

Goodnight, STAR WARS. Thanks for the memories.

Nordling, out.

Update to include another twisting of the knife - Obi-Wan's Krayt Dragon call now sounds like he's getting a hummer in a back alley on Mos Eisley:

So About Those Changes on the Star Wars Blu-rays... (http://uk.bluray.ign.com/articles/119/1191850p1.html)

"Every time we watch the movies he's got something he wants to change," Wood said. "And so there's obviously changes done to the films, visually as well as audio-wise. So there are some changes in the Blu-ray version that you'll have to find. [Laughs] That's always fun. It's funny because we meticulously put it all together like, 'Here's where it was.' And then he'll update it."

Wood wouldn't reveal any of the audio changes to us, but he did hint that some of them go back to the original script. " I mean we're talking super subtle like a footstep here and there or a couple of lines of dialogue, or maybe some background stuff that we would basically go in and just re-perform or get an approximate sound. But very, very, very small subtle stuff."

George Lucas Speaks Out Against Altering Films in 1988 | /Film (http://www.slashfilm.com/george-lucas-speaks-altering-films-1988/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+slashfilm+%28%2FFilm%29&utm_content=Google+Reader)

In the 1980s, a controversy swirled in Hollywood when there was a notion to colorize black and white films. The issue made it all the way in front of Congress due in large part to the passionate backing of several important filmmakers. Eventually, their efforts helped to establish the National Film Registry which, to this day, takes historically significant films and preserves them in their natural state forever.

On March 3, 1988, George Lucas was one of those filmmakers who spoke in front of Congress. The same George Lucas who, in the two decades since, has continually tinkered with his signature Star Wars films from the Special Editions through the prequels and right up to the Blu-rays, which caused massive mainstream controversy this week due to new changes including a digital Yoda and Darth Vader’s new dialogue. But on that day, 23 years ago, Lucas delivered a rousing speech that condemned exactly what he’d end up doing himself.

Rare Footage from ‘Indiana Jones and the Temple Of Doom’ Set Features Barbra Streisand and Carrie Fisher | /Film (http://www.slashfilm.com/rare-footage-indiana-jones-temple-doom-set-features-barbra-streisand-carrie-fisher/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+slashfilm+%28%2FFilm%29&utm_content=Google+Reader)

Carrie Fisher and Barbara Streisand are not in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Legend has it, however, that director Steven Spielberg wanted to play a practical joke on his star, Harrison Ford, while filming a scene where Indy is captured by the Thuggee. Spielberg got the famous singer to dress up as a dominatrix and whip him. Then, the story goes that Carrie Fisher popped in with Empire Strikes Back director Irvin Kershner. Rumors of this footage have been whispered between Indiana Jones fans for years and now, finally, JoBlo has found it. The quality isn’t great; it looks bad, and sounds bad. But it’s better to have a raw version of this gem than none at all.

I feel the need to tell someone this thought and this seems as good a place as any.

I'm ****ing tired of the argument that the Star Wars movies belong to Lucas and he can change them as he sees fit.

That's bull****.

Empire was directed by Irvin Kirshner and written by Leigh Brackett and Lawrence Kasdan.
Jedi was directed by Richard Marquand and written by Lawrence Kasdan.

Those are NOT "George Lucas' movies" anymore than Lawrence of Arabia was a "Horizon Pictures movie".

Lucas owns the rights to those flicks so he obviously retains the legal right to alter them in anyway he sees fit. But to declare them "his masterpieces" and insist that he has the "artistic right" to alter them at his whim for years to come should be considered an insult to all the other people who had creative input on the making of those films.

**** George Lucas. He's an *******.

Along with the release of Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray tomorrow, Lucasfilm has teamed up with eBay, Major League Baseball, and a number of celebrities to urge fans to “Use the Force for Good” and donate to Stand Up to Cancer, the organization that’s tirelessly funding research in the fight against cancer.

In their mission to bring in as much money as possible to fight this terrible disease, a handful of celebrities were brought in to make a video. In it, the stars—which includes Aziz Ansari, Zach Galifianakis, Bill Hader, Ed Helms, Ken Jeong, Jaime King, Seth Rogen, Andy Samberg, Emma Stone, and Samuel L. Jackson—re–enact various scenes from Star Wars.

You can see the video by heading below now. Might I add that it involves Miss Stone as Princess Leia? Because it does. Not Slave Leia, as I’m sure you all [I] wanted, but Leia nonetheless. For the rest of you, it also has Galifianakis as Leia…so there’s that, too!

I don't like it but I consider it more of an annoyance than anything), what other changes make you feel this way? The Ewok's blinking? The lightsabers looking like they should have? The Wampa arm? I don't really think they're all that big in terms of anything. Again, other than the Vader one rubbing people the wrong way.

I think it's a gyp that you have to pay so damned much and you still get the 'prequels'. They should charge less BECAUSE those are included. It's like the Godfather 'trilogy'. But really, I understand your point and now that you put it that way it does seem kind of petty, but it's a principal thing. Even Spielberg realizes that constant tinkering is not the answer. And Ges...if you followed me you'd be a sheep too, so really I just put that pic up there for the lame 'ewe' joke. I guess I just want to see the movies I cherished as a kid/teen to be the way I remembered them, warts and all.

I think FANBOYS should be included in this simply for the end, when they are finally going to get to see the new Star Wars, and right before it cuts to black you hear...'what if it sucks?' Take that Lucas. And, oh yeah, take $89.95 for every damned one of these you are bound to sell. Damn your hide!

I can get behind that feeling. I just think some people carry their feelings a little too far on some of these changes. It feels like they hate them out of principle more than because of what they actually are. My personal feelings are that I like a lot of what he did with the special editions, and I feel he went a little overboard with some of the stuff too. Not enough to ruin my enjoyment though. I think that a lot of the hate is because Lucas just KEEPS changing them. It's one thing to clean up matte lines, polishing up the sabres(teehee)...but the Han/Greedo thing and NOOOOOOOOO, and substituting Hayden Cristensen's ghost...these are major alterations to what has previously existed. It's like Warner Brothers going in and changing the yellow brick road to a four lane blacktop. Technical improvements can be forgiven, applauded even, but Lucas just does not know when to stop. And yeah, because of that people tend to overreact whenever news comes out that he is at it again. And yes, fanboys cry to the heavens...WHY???? So? If not for fanboys Lucas would have had to come up with a new movie or two along the way. In the end, everyone will buy it, so matter not it does...or something like that.

**** that. Since when is art about technical perfection? Who gives a **** if the lightsabres are the wrong color or a storm trooper bonks his head on a door frame or if Vader's ghost had hair that never actually grew.

I know a lot of people keep saying that they will wait for Lucas to released remastered versions of the original, but DVD has practically come and gone, and it didn't happen. I won't be holding my breath for those versions to come out on Blu-ray and people who are will probably be waiting for a long time. :P

Would be great for a goof to take a clip of the yellow brick road/munchkin land scene and superimpose NIKE logos on all the hats and place ads for Starbucks and Apple computers around the various OZ locals.

Of a different note....Lucas is his own worst enemy. Stop f'ing with your masterpiece. Every rerelease comes with some new addition that is far worse then the original.

there is zero mention or hint of either medium of philosophical approach and impact implicit in the statement - "Since when is art about technical perfection?" therefore, i answered that question accordingly with a single example... there are scores of others. i haven't subverted the intention of dickall, unless of course your intention was just to bitch about something.

Picked-up 2 sets because they're available up here as a game trade-in at Best Buy's sister store (Future Shop). Will probably get a third as well because this will not be $44 for a long time. :)

Watched half the movies already. No complaints from me.

ANH + ESB: perfection.

TPM Yoda looks like he fits the prequels now. There are still things I did not see/realize before, like the speeder driver on Coruscant at the landing platform looks like he is a Bothan.

Listened to half-hour of each commentary. And there are 2 for each movie. Have not even watched the extras yet. This set is easily the best Blu-Ray release of the year.

Consumers were willing to shell out top dollar for the complete "Star Wars" franchise, which bowed on Blu-ray this week, with the collection selling more than 1 million units to break records for the high-definition homevideo format.

The nine-disc set generated more than $84 million from worldwide sales, with $38 million collected in the U.S. alone, from 515,000 units in North America. On average, the collection is priced at $79.99.

The sales figures made "Star Wars: The Complete Saga" the No. 1 pre-order and catalog title since the launch of Blu-ray in 2006.

Steven Spielberg Blames George Lucas For How Dumb ‘Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull’ Was > The Playlist (http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/archives/steven_spielberg_blames_george_lucas_for_how_dumb_ kingdom_of_the_crystal_sk/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_content=Google+Reader)

“I’m very happy with the movie. I always have been…I sympathise with people who didn’t like the MacGuffin because I never liked the MacGuffin. George and I had big arguments about the MacGuffin,” Spielberg rationalized to Empire. “I didn’t want these things to be either aliens or inter-dimensional beings. But I am loyal to my best friend. When he writes a story he believes in - even if I don’t believe in it - I’m going to shoot the movie the way George envisaged it. I’ll add my own touches, I’ll bring my own cast in, I’ll shoot the way I want to shoot it, but I will always defer to George as the storyteller of the Indy series. I will never fight him on that.”

As for the long rumored fifth movie? Spielberg says it’s all up to Lucas and again emphasizes, he comes up with the story ideas. “You have to ask George Lucas. George is in charge of breaking the stories. He’s done it on all four movies. Whether I like the stories or not, George has broken all the stories. He is working on Indy V. We haven’t gone to screenplay yet, but he’s working on the story. I’ll leave it to George to come up with a good story,” he said, presumably without sarcasm.

But it’s not all Lucas’ fault as Spielberg takes full ownership of the ‘Crystal Skull’ moment that quickly became a catchphrase for **** getting fubar. “...What people really jumped at was Indy climbing into a refrigerator and getting blown into the sky by an atom-bomb blast. Blame me. Don’t blame George. That was my silly idea. People stopped saying ‘jump the shark.’ They now say, ‘nuked the fridge.’ I’m proud of that. I’m glad I was able to bring that into popular culture.”

Star Wars fan convicted of killing wife after she smashed his toys | Blastr (http://blastr.com/2011/11/star-wars-fan-convicted-o.php)

In the ultimate case of "don't touch my stuff," a British fan and collector slipped into a homicidal rage after his wife tried to "make his life hell" by destroying his beloved Star Wars memorabilia.

According to the Mirror, 30-year-old Rickie La-Touche plead guilty to choking his wife, Pornpilai Srisroy, 28, to death after she pummeled his collection of Star Wars memorabilia, which he'd been building since he was a boy and was worth in the "thousands of pounds."

La-Touche met his Thailand-born wife in a Bangkok bar 10 years ago, but since then, he claimed, that she was threatening to return home ... without him. In a police interview, La-Touche said:

"My wife is from Thailand and she keeps threatening to leave. We argued and she said she was going to make my life hell. ... She's put me through it before. I couldn't let that happen again. I then just remember getting up from on top of her. I think I've choked her."
La-Touche plead guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to a minimum of 12 years in prison.

Guy arrested for attacking holiday shoppers with lightsaber | Blastr (http://blastr.com/2011/12/guy-arrested-for-attackin.php)

man was arrested in Oregon after assaulting three customers at a Toys 'R' Us with a lightsaber, yet more proof that everything is better with lightsabers. Even manic episodes.

According to Oregon Live, after he ceased his attack on customers, the unnamed assailant soon left the store but remained in the parking lot. When police arrived, they tried to arrest him, but he kept swinging his saber in a threatening, Sith-like manner.

Police then tried to taser him. Obviously imbued with the power of the Dark Side, the assailant swatted away the wires with the lightsaber.

The officers finally arrested the man after grabbing him and pinning him to the ground. The suspect, identified only as a 33-year-old Hillsboro man, was treated by medics at the scene and taken to an area hospital for a mental evaluation. He faces "several criminal charges" after he is evaluated, Simpson said.
We hope this man gets the attention he needs. We also hope that a Jedi Master can speak to him about turning to the Light Side.

French Fast Food Joint Releases ‘Star Wars’ Burgers For ‘Phantom Menace’ 3D Release | Geeks of Doom (http://www.geeksofdoom.com/2012/01/04/french-fast-food-joint-releases-star-wars-burgers-for-phantom-menace-3d-release/)

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c179/rtbstrd1331/darthburger.jpg

A French fast food restaurant called Quick is making some specialty burgers in conjunction with the re-release of Star Wars: Episode 1 — The Phantom Menace in 3D.

The trio of burgers each draw inspiration from the Star Wars universe. The first is the “Dark Burger,” inspired by Darth Maul (or “Dark Maul”), which can be seen here. Then comes the “Jedi Burger,” inspired by Master Yoda and the Jedi, and last but not least, the “Dark Vador” burger, which is of course inspired by Darth Vader and can be seen above. The Vader burger is the most notable of the three because it comes on a jet-black “carbonized” bun.

The Darth Maul and Darth Vader burgers will be available until March 1st while the Yoda burger will be available until March 5th.

There’s no denying that these are some absurd burger creations, as you can tell by the images. And they don’t end there, either — a visit to the chain’s Facebook page shows off some wacky Frankenstein-level beasts of a sandwich. Even one with foie gras (fattened duck or goose liver) on it! And you thought America came up with some zany food items.

STAR WARS Live-Action Series May be Titled STAR WARS: UNDERWORLD (http://collider.com/star-wars-underworld-tv-series/136586/)

Check out the bullet points or watch the whole interview below:
•Scripts are timeless, so even though they’re a few years old already, the stories can be produced at any time. McCallum says the scripts will only get better.
•Stories take place in the twenty year period between Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope when Luke Skywalker is growing up.
•Stories aren’t about Luke, but about the criminal underworld during that period. McCallum draws comparisons to modern day Wall Street.
•The main impediment to getting the live-action TV series done is the budget. The difficulty lies in integrating the effects from the movies within the budgets and time constraints of a weekly series.
•Lucas obviously won’t go to a network like HBO which will demand rights to the property in exchange for financing.
•McCallum says it’s about breaking even, “not about making a ****load of money.”
•Calls Nielsen Ratings a “Bernie Madoff pyramid scheme.”
•McCallum says that there are 50 one-hour scripts, each of which is “bigger than any of the prequels were. They’re complex, they’re dark, they’re adult,” but technologically they can’t do them for $5 million an episode or less due to all the digital animation on the digital characters.
•Cites difficulties in getting their series onto major networks, even if they financed the project themselves, due to lack of patience by the networks for shows will smaller audiences and lower ratings.

In 2009, Casey Pugh asked thousands of Internet users to remake "Star Wars: A New Hope" into a fan film, 15 seconds at a time. Contributors were allowed to recreate scenes from Star Wars however they wanted. Within just a few months SWU grew into a wild success. The creativity that poured into the project was unimaginable.

George Lucas says making Star Wars was 'painful and unpleasant' | Blastr (http://blastr.com/2012/01/george-lucas-says-making.php)

It's probably not something any Star Wars fan really wants to hear, but Lucas is unabashedly honest and candid about the difficulties of creating something that was, back then, unique.

"The first film was really hard," admitted Lucas. "It was painful. It was unpleasant. We never had enough time or enough money, and we were always compromising on everything, and it was a difficult experience all the way around."

Maybe that's why it was so good DUMMY! Cause you had to create and edit your horrible overindulgent urges. Given a buttload of money you come up with Jar Jar Binks. Jayzus, can you really be that out of touch????

Ok, I've had a nerdy bug in me all day that I'm going to let out whether you want it or not.

There really isn't much dispute over the original trilogy so I won't be talking about that so much. The prequels though are a different story. Obviously they had many faults, but I do think too many people look right over some of the really good things that they brought.

The Phantom Menace:

I was born in '81 so this was the first new Star Wars movie I was able to catch in theaters and by that I mean the special editions of the originals don't count cuz I had already seen them before the '97 re-release. At the time I really wasn't that big of a Star Wars fan. I "just" liked the movies and my friend couldn't use his ticket on opening night so I went instead. This was before the internet spoiler craze so I really went in without knowing a damn thing. I had only just heard of Darth Maul that week as I was flipping channels and Entertainment Tonight was talking about the movie. So when I consider those things, and the fact that I was still a teenager, I think it's understandable that I didn't hate the movie like so many Star Wars fanatics. I actually liked it. Enough to see it multiple times. Ok, so Jar Jar was a bad idea and he drove most people crazy. People lose site of the fact though that this movie brought not one, but two of the best characters in ALL of the Star Wars series. One being Maul, and the other being Qui-Gon Jinn. The biggest problem I have with Episode I is that they were BOTH killed off. I understand the need to kill Qui-Gon, but I do not think it was a good idea to kill of the Sith. Especially the way it was done. The guy absolutely kicks the asses of 2 Jedi at the same time only to go down like a punk (a Sammy J reference for you nerds). He should have been the Vader of the prequels instead of the villain of the week treatment that we got with the 3 movies. And that fight sequence is the best in the whole series, by far. Duel of the Fates is also one of, if not the best musical piece by John Williams, period. With Qui-Gon, not only do we get Liam Neeson, but a character who is actually more interesting than Obi-Wan. Who woulda thought that? Then you have Natalie Portman who I never get tired of looking at (I'm the same age as her so it was ok for me to enjoy her presence at the time). Jake Lloyd wasn't the greatest actor but he was just a kid so I can't really fault him and if great actors have trouble with some of the material, I can't expect a 10 year old to master them. Yes, the script was a little hammy, but show me a Star Wars movie that doesn't have some bad dialogue. Even the great Alec Guinness was not very fond of what he had to work with. I will also gladly admit that the movie was a little too kiddy overall but I think that's what Lucas was going for so he achieved his goal. I could have done with about 10 fewer minutes of that damn pod-race though. Jesus Christ, it wouldn't end. The midiclorian (sp?) thing wasn't so much of a letdown for me as it was for others, but again, I wasn't THAT into Star Wars before so it didn't really bother me at the time. Watching it now, Anakin's conception does feel glossed over. And perhaps it was my ignorance but I had no clue until late in the movie that Sidious and Palpatine were the same person. The Jedi council was cool to see but man was Samuel L. Jackson ever miscast. I'll cut myself off there with this movie.

Attack of the Clones:

This is my least favorite of the prequels. It's still entertaining at times but my God, that love story. Barf! I like a good love story as much as the next person but this was laughable. And the dialogue was seriously cringe-worthy. "My planet is full of sand. It's coarse and gets everywhere. Not like here where everything is soft and smooth." As he gently caresses her arm. Are you effing kidding me with this ****? "Ani? My goodness, you've grown." And so plays the theme song for Shaft. Hayden Christensen is such a bad actor, folks. He was worse than the kid in the first movie. He also spends 3/4 of the movie either bitching or trying his best to look angry. The love is just so forced all in all, that I really couldn't care less about these two. And I can't imagine why Padme would fall in love with this sap. Obi-Wan is really the one who's interesting here. The scene where he meets Jango Fett for the first time is probably my favorite because it's one of the few scenes in the movie (maybe the only one) with actual subtext. Speaking of Fett, probably the coolest character in the movie and like Darth Maul, killed like a chump. One thing though that is a peeve of mine is when things happen out of convenience for the story to move along or to just please the fans in a cheap way. The Spider-man movies drove me nuts for this reason. Fett is a cool character and I haven't read any of the books, but to have him be the troopers is a little much and seemed too obvious that Lucas was just throwing him in there cuz Boba was popular in the originals. And we never even got an explanation on the difference between Storm Troopers and Clone Troopers. Another one of these is Dooku being Qui-Gon's master and Yoda being Dooku's master. Are there no other Jedi? Everyone is linked? Let's be a little more realistic. Pretty much everything on Geonosis bored me. Even the light saber fight at the end wasn't that fun to watch. Seeing Yoda fight for the first time gets a meh from me and this was the first time we saw a fully CGI Yoda which is a thumbs down. And I'm very pissed that the BD release of The Phantom Menace has a new, CGI Yoda.

Revenge of the Sith:

The best of the prequels and the only PG-13 Star Wars film for obvious reasons. While Anakin is shown to be quite stupid throughout, it is enjoyable to watch Ian Mcdiarmid at work in this movie. Plus, his fight sequence with Windu is one that has my heart racing every time because of what we know will happen. I do think all of that part was well done and it was great to see how Darth Sidious got the deformed face. Probably the best bit of directing by Lucas in these films comes right before when Anakin is about to make his fateful decision. It's just him looking out the window and Padme doing the same thing from the other side of the city. The combination of no dialogue plus the eerie music playing in the background was enough to speak volumes and I really have to give Lucas credit for such a simple but well crafted scene. For months, I heard about General Grievous and how menacing he's be and boy was that a lie. I didn't hate the character but I still wanted something more than yet another CGI character. Darth Maul was scary because he was real. Order 66 was a sad yet well done bit. Dooku's death and the nod to Return of the Jedi in that scene was nice to see and in general, the movie did a decent job of bridging with gap between the 2 trilogies. The fight scene we heard about for so many years between Anakin and Obi-Wan was good, though there was yet again too much CGI. Watching Anakin burn with his limbs cut off is a disturbing image but we finally saw it. I just wish he didn't scream like a little girl, "I hate you". And these prequels would be nothing without some bad love action right before the final battle. "You're breaking my heart". Cry me a river. Yoda vs. Sidious was a dream matchup and played out with Duel of the Fates playing which is a plus. Which now brings me to my biggest beef with this movie which is Padme's death. WTF? She died of a broken heart? She lost the will to live even though she just gave birth to two babies who needed their mother? She sounds like a messed up biatch to me. And how does one die from a broken heart anyway? I had a bigger issue with this than with the infamous, "NOOOOOOOO!!!". I get why that was hated (I hate it more that it's in the BD release of Return of the Jedi as well) but I also understand why Lucas put it in. He was a Frankenstein fan growing up and that scene was taken right out of that story. Even the way Vader walks for the first time. His yell is pretty funny though and gave birth to one of the most useful sites of all time. Instant No Button! Star Wars funnies FTW! (http://www.nooooooooooooooo.com). The explanation of Qui-Gon coming back through the force and being the first to do it was something I liked because it touched more on how powerful he actually was. He is the one who discovered Anakin and defied the council after all. Luke and Leia and hearing their themes was pretty much the way to end it so no problems there.

Overall, I really can't hate on these movies like so many people. Yes, there is a lot of bad, but there is a lot of good too and after all is said and done, I honestly do believe that these movies did the originals a service.

PS. For anyone who actually read this, sorry for the lack of paragraphs. I kinda just vomited on the internet.

I went in ALL THREE TIMES hopeful that ThisWouldBeTheOne that brought back that magic feeling, only to be hopelessly crushed each time. Sure my expectations were high, but I went in ALL THREE TIMES with eyes wide open. The prequels are sterile. From the acting to the overly complicated politics. Maybe taken as a seperate entity they would fare better, but they have NO sense of fun. No sense of magic. Just a plodding overexplained trajectory of the fall of Anakin 'pouty mc bratty' Skywalker. You know why the original movies worked? Because Luke/Han/Leia were real people. Not people left to their own devices in front of green screens by a director who no longer has the ability to connect with his actors or his audience because he is too busy playing in his computer generated effects sandbox. The thing I don't get...didn't Lucas always say that the original SW flicks were meant as homage to the Saturday serials he loved as a kid? What was the motivation for the prequels? They tried so hard to be 'hard' sci-fi and even that they failed at(i.m.o.). You do realize that a lot of the hatred is extra fueled by his constant revisionist tinkering. It's a case of a guy being too powerful and not having other voices to reel him back in. It started with Return of the Jedi and has snowballed exponentially. And instead of recognizing the feelings of the fans, who you would think he was making the movies for, he instead goes on a 'I'm quitting, the fans are too mean to me' jag. He has a lot to answer for and no awareness of that fact.
