Ok, a little early but the procedure has changed and if you even want a chance to try to snag tix you have to pre-register, so in the interest of all of you who want to try...

Comic-Con 2012 Pre-Registration Begins (http://collider.com/comic-con-2012-pre-registration/136823/)

San Diego Comic-Con has become so popular that last year they couldn?t figure out how to sell badges without crashing servers. When they did manage to sell the badges, they all sold out in less than a day. Not just the 4-day badges, but the individual day badges as well. Today, Comic-Con has opened pre-registration and it begins by setting up a Member ID. To be clear: Setting up a Member ID does not guarantee you a badge. It?s the first step you need to take to even have a chance at buying a badge. You must register by February 28th.

That's too bad... He left an important mark on this earth though, and was responsible for many hours of fun.

But, i wouldn't be me if i didn't at least poke a little fun at the last sentence of his obit - about being survived by his mother...

Imagine that... LOLlie Fingers!

As much fun as I have at CC I have to say I am seriously thinking of not going this year. It was a bloody cluster**** last year, the lines to get into panels was ridiculous.

Either clear the halls after every event or make people register for the panels they want to go to and issue passes.

I haven't been to any comic conventions in years, but I think I'm going to hit up Wonder Con in Anaheim in March, though.

I see they are having their normal brain farts on getting registered for a "chance" at getting tickets. Each person must have their own ID#. Thats fine but when I went to sign up my wife it would not take her info since I reused the same email address as I had on my own ID. Luckly I have a secondary one I use only for my online gallery but I'm certain there are others that might have a problem if they had to do an ID for wife and kids.

Comic-Con 2012 :: Hotels (http://www.comic-con.org/cci/cci_hotel.php)Translation for everyone: Hey folks, pay $1k in advance with no chance of refund and hope you get your tickets. Shouldn't be tough considering how smoothly it went last year. Also, if you don't have any luck and can't get a badge or several, enjoy the traffic and high prices while you stay at our lovely hotel for the weekend.

I might still be bitter after last year. . .but this just smacks of insanity to get a room already.

In our case I made arrangements a while ago to stay down in Chula Vista (which can be canceled if I don't get a ticket) near a Trolly station. Much cheaper than the ones downtown or in Hotel circle. We just get a 3 day trolly pass and get dropped off in front of the Omni each morning.

The only problem with this, for me back when I used to go to SDCC, was that it means having to carry everything around with you all day.

Instead of SDCC, I'm hitting up Wonder Con in Anaheim this year. WonderCon 2011 :: What's New (http://www.comic-con.org/wc/) Won't be as cool, but the money and time saved should offset that some.

Bite away or fire away...yes it's cool to say 'I was there back in the day' and I get that. I love a good rant more than most. I appreciate that it has grown away from the purpose that it served and I thank those that came before me. In the meantime I love the sights, smells, and memories that the con has afforded me the past couple years. You have to remember...time changes all. Comic books were in the closet so to speak when this started...and now...they have come out screaming. A good idea is a good idea and success breeds contempt. Is ComicCon perfect? NOPE. But it's multicolored multi-paneled...just like the comics that spawned it(see what I did there). And I will cherish it till I cannot anymore. My cynicism goes away when I get to go all fanboy for 4 days. I get to see folks who I admire, laugh at those less fortunate than I, and come home with swag, toys and cool memories. Once again...CANNOT wait for the bad food, geek body odor, and long waits in line. Excelsior.

don't get me wrong... i hear ya, and often times i would heavily lobby against most things 'purist' as evidenced by something as simple as my musical tastes. problem is, there are certain facets of my life that prohibit me from being able to plan so far in advance for something like this, and the ever increasing gaggle of non-geeks gives me preemptive heartburn - to the point that i don't think i could stomach the nausea i'm sure to encounter because of such a large mob and having to at least feel the compulsion to fast-track rather than meander... and take in that nerdy fanboy effervescence in all its glory.

the success per se isn't what has bred my contempt... the bi-product has, dig? that said, beleee me, i would NEVER want it to go back to the days of the early/mid Nineties... f*** THAT noise!

the last one i went to was the Revenge of the Sith-ic Con, so i think i ended on a high... farting was still funny then, whereas now it seem the general climate would think it grodie!

Well, I got one this year. No bitching for the next 365 days from me on the ordering process this time. It went WAY smoother on this end I thought. Having said that, I'd STILL like them to give people more notice than one day. It sorta still feels gimmicky like that. Sucks for people out of town or waiting on a check or something.

Anyway, since there probably won't be any BIG movies that I'm interested in this year, I'll be looking to catch some small stuff and have more fun this time around.

So it turns out I was not the only guy wearing Kings gear at Wondercon today. Saw at least four other guys in Kings stuff and one in not in Kings gears who yelled "Go kings!" at me as we passed each other.

Saw only one dude in a ducks hat!

We rule Wondercon!!!

On a side note I met Danzig today! Got to talk to him for a bit and much to my surprise he very cool and friendly. I had heard for the last number of years he was, well, an a-hole and he could not have been nicer.

Anyways it is always sweet to meet someone you liked as a kid and were a fan of and they be cool when you finally meet them.

Went to Wondercon the last 2 days, OK con but maybe a 1/4 size of Comiccon and a few of the artists I was looking forward to see did not show up. I did find one seller who specialized in underground comic art from the early 70's. I was pleasently surprised to find a nice Vaughn Bode "Cheech Wizard" strip drawn for National Lampoon in 1972 for a reasonable price. Most Bode original work normally start at $1k and works it's way up.
Vaughn Bod (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaughn_Bod%C4%93)

The nice thing is the seller will also be at San Diego so I can hopefully save up additional funds to get more of his stuff.

It is a lot smaller than SDCC, but it's also a lot less crowded, which I liked. KP, was that you wearing the Norstrom jersey??

I got all my American Vampire hardcovers signed by Scott Snyder. All my Locke & Key hardcovers signed by Joe Hill. A whole bunch of **** signed by Bill Sienkiewicz, my favorite artist of all time, all of my Goon trades signed by Eric Powell and a whole ****load of great TPBs for half off.

If they keep it in Anaheim, I will go every year.

Last year we got assigned hotels that weren't even on our choice list. We wait listed for better and Kingsqueen was persistent and we wound up with a really great hotel. So, expect the worst but know that it's not necessarily what your final result will be.

yeah. much like i said last year, you have a group of people running this huge thing like it's not a huge thing. i was fortunate that I ended up getting a place (not on my list and a mile out but it's something), but they really really REALLY need to get their **** together. this is unacceptable at this point. it's been three years of them screwing something up in some fashion or other and it's really a shame. they either need new people running it, or someone to recognize that things are out of control.

Yeah, I am pretty disgusted with the whole affair. I was so relieved after waiting for 5 hours and stressing the hell out with the reward of getting tickets at the con for this year. Thought all my troubles were over. And now, the frigging hotels are as hard to get as the tickets if not more so. Seems pretty ridiculous. I would imagine that a lot of ticket holders do not have rooms. How can that be? They should have more than enough rooms to go around...it's not as if they do not know what the capacity is. It really is a new cluster**** every year. The general excuse is 'hey, they are trying' well it's once a year. There isn't a lot of room for trial and error. You are right...it's not a mom and pop affair anymore, something that is apparently lost on the powers that be.

My guess with the hotel rooms is this:

The hotels allotted a certain amount of "discounted" (and I use that terms so ****ing liberally here) rooms to sell. The rest will be released on the general sale on the 10th. Probably at a higher rate, but also likely many more rooms that are available. It's BS, but I'm betting that's what happens. So, the place you wanted will be there to pick up, but you'll be paying another 10-15% on top of the previous rate. Since they know people will rush to get them, they'll make an even better profit now.

Registration opened back up this morning and we find ourselves STILL without a room. I mentioned a while back and it is worth repeating, If you can not get a close hotel of one on the bus route checkout the Trolly system SDMTS - Trolley Information (http://www.sdmts.com/Trolley/Trolley.asp) then see if you can find a hotel near a station on the route. It's cheaper and they run all day and into the late evening.

It's on Friday, which if I can recall is traditionally a day spent in Hall H anyway. I think that we are going to see a lot of shows bump up to the bigs(Game of Thrones PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE) due to Disney and by extension Marvel holding off on promoting too much due to their Disney convention a few months away. Add to that no Dark Knight rises and I think we have the makings of a really low key SDCC this year. Not necessarily a bad thing but there are those that will gripe no doubt.

Comic-Con 2012: Hall H Movie Studios Include Marvel, Disney, Sony and Lionsgate-Summit (http://collider.com/comic-con-2012-iron-man-3-the-hobbit-hall-h/172711/)

So which movie studios are no-shows? Variety is reporting that Paramount, 20th Century Fox, Relativity Media, DreamWorks and DreamWorks Animation are all skipping out on Hall H this year. Universal hasn’t confirmed one way or the other. Here’s what we do expect to see:

Disney/Marvel:

Iron Man 3 (May 3, 2013)
Disney:

Wreck-It Ralph (November 2, 2012)
Oz: The Great and Powerful (March 8, 2013)
Warner Bros.:

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (December 14, 2012)
Man of Steel (June 14, 2013)
Legendary Pictures (w/ Warner Bros. as distributors):

Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim (July 12, 2013) – unconfirmed
Sony (all unconfirmed):

Total Recall (August 3, 2012)
Premium Rush (August 24, 2012)
Kevin James’ martial-arts comedy, Here Comes the Boom (October 12, 2012)
Will Smith in M. Night Shyamalan’s After Earth (June 7, 2013)
Lionsgate/Summit:

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 (November 16, 2012)
The Expendables 2 (August 17, 2012)
Dredd (September 21, 2012) – unconfirmed
If Universal decides to turn up, we could see something from R.I.P.D., starring Ryan Reynolds in a June 28th, 2013 release. The studio could also showcase The Bourne Legacy (August 3, 2012) and 47 Ronin (February 8, 2013).

If Paramount decides to show, we could see (emphasis on the “could”) something new, perhaps, from G.I. Joe: Retaliation, which was pushed back to a March 29th, 2013 opening date, owing to reshoots, 3D post-conversion and a Channing Tatum infusion. Equally plagued and hungry for a dose of good PR is the Brad Pitt-starrer, World War Z (June 21, 2013). If Paramount doesn’t show, don’t expect to see any glimpses of Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters (January 11, 2013), Tom Cruise in Jack Reacher (December 21, 2012) or, disappointingly, anything from Star Trek 2 (May 17, 2013).

Comic-Con 2012 TV Panel Round-Up: GLEE, FRINGE, ARROW, FAMILY GUY, SONS OF ANARCHY and More (http://collider.com/tv-panel-fringe-glee-arrow-comic-con-2012/172977/)

With Comic-Con 2012 just around the corner, word is starting to leak out about what movies and TV shows will/won’t be making an appearance. We have a good idea of the film panel slate in Hall H, and now official word regarding TV panels is trickling down. As a quick reference guide, we’ve rounded up the TV panels that have been confirmed thus far in one easy article. Briefly:

Thursday – MAD, Nikita
Friday – The Big Bang Theory, Arrow, Bones, Childrens Hospital, Cult, 666 Park Avenue, Brickleberry, Bob’s Burgers, The Venture Bros, NTSF:SD:SUV, Robot Chicken, Black Dynamite Saturday – Glee, The Vampire Diaries, Revolution, The Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad, Person of Interest, Futurama, The Following
Sunday – Fringe, Sons of Anarchy, Supernatural, DC Nation, The Cleveland Show Hit the jump for more details, including which actors will be in attendance and where the panels will take place. Comic-Con 2012 will run from July 11 – July 15.

Before the actual panels take place, there will be pilot screenings for Arrow, Revolution, The Following, Cult and 666 Park Avenue in Ballroom 20 on Wednesday night. This is only a partial list, as we should also expect panels for Game of Thrones, True Blood, The Walking Dead, etc. Though it’d never happen in a million years, I would be at a panel for HBO’s Girls in a heartbeat. To hear Lena Dunham and co. talk about the twistedly hilarious situations that must have inspired some of the show’s scenes/storylines would be incredibly entertaining. Alas, that’s about as likely as getting Christopher Nolan to bring The Dark Knight Rises to Comic-Con.

YES!!!!!!!!

AMC sets Walking Dead, Breaking Bad panels for Comic-Con (http://www.hitfix.com/news/amc-sets-walking-dead-breaking-bad-panels-for-comic-con)

Comicon is all about the tv this year.

AMC announced its Comic-Con plans on Thursday (June 21) morning, including the first-ever panel for "Breaking Bad."

Stars Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul -- plus co-stars Anna Gunn, Dean Norris, Betsy Brandt, RJ Mitte and Jonathan Banks -- and creator Vince Gilligan will hit Ballroom 20 at the San Diego Convention Center on Friday, July 13 at 6:45 p.m. for an hour-long panel, presumably covering the show's fifth and final season, which will premiere just two days later.

Earlier that same day, "The Walking Dead" will make the leap from Ballroom 20 to Hall H for its latest Comic-Con panel, moderated once again by "Talking Dead" host Chris Hardwick. Scheduled for 1:25, the "Walking Dead" panel will feature stars Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, Denai Guerrero and David Morrissey (The Governor!!!), plus producers Glen Mazzara, Gale Anne Hurd, Robert Kirman and Greg Nicotero.

Good luck making it into both panels, if you're so inclined.

AMC is also counting Kevin Smith's July 14 Hall H panel at 10 p.m. as something of a "Comic Book Men" panel, though mostly it's just Smith's annual chat with the Comic-Con faithful.

Yeah. And next year will only be better. With onsite sales a thing of the past that means more tickets available, but...wah-wah...more people jamming/crashing the site and more overall bull****. I am amazed that, this late in the game, even though we were waitlisted and all, there are NO hotels available. So we are WAY WAY WAY offsite and will have to drive in and pay for parking every day. Fun Huh? You would think they would organize park'n'ride options for those not on the bus route, but where's the potential gouging in that?

Well as far as gouging goes, no onsite presale means no presale discount so next year everyone will pay full pop.

Why the "sorry, Kq"? The Sons panel have always been on Sunday and we've never missed it before, why would we now?

I just finished the art for the San Diego Comic Con Rachel Rising print. Size is 14 X 11 inches. Price will be $10. We’ll print a limited number, like 250 for the show, and I’ll sign on the bottom right.

So, uh, if you guys happen to walk by Terry Moore's booth and happen to have $10 to spend... I'll pay you back!

Yeah...the programming so far allows for less than early starts. I like the Hall H sched...provided we can get in. I think there will be some emptying after BBT, but not much. It's get there early or get assed out. And...just enough window after Thrones to pop over to indigo for Robot Chicken(that's a huge area/room btw) and Black Dynamite.

Legendary Pictures will be descending on Comic-Con this year in full force. Not only is the company going to be preview Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim, but it will provide a sneak peek of some sort of Godzilla! That's according to our pals at Latino Review, who dropped some big Marvel news today.

Now, Legendary is taking up prime real estate at SDCC. They'll be in the coveted Hall H.

The site would not say what will be shown from Godzilla - a project that has been in development for a bit now - but that it was going to be "sick."
Gareth Edwards of Monsters is directing. I'm guessing that they'll either be showing off some concept art or pre-viz FX perhaps...

Ummm...yeah. I hope there is no conflict on this one.

Fudge....I would love to see a Tarantino panel (it would be a Comic-Con first for us)...but yeah, probably no way we can do that and Ballroom 20. Unfortunately, there's a damn Vampire Diaries panel after the animation block, so you're going to have a lot of those people squatting for seats in the animation panels. Yeah. I agree. But it seems one or the other. True Blood is in Ballroom 20 too later in the day so there may be a hot traffic jam in there all day. That Hobbit/Superman panel and the following Iron Man3 panel...gonna be the big draws. Might get some overlap between Guillermo and Peter Jackson and that could be a lot of fun. Btw, I think 2008 was actually the first year we went, too! :)

http://2aday.files.wordpress.com/2008/06/comiccon.jpg

I think that was my first years as well.

Even though I was always a "comic book guy" I thought Comicon was only for super-nerds and there was no way I would be caught dead there. You know, I did not live in my moms basement, liked and played sports, actually has sex with a real women ect ect...I totally would not fit in! I mean the guys who go to Comicon are the fat guys with beards who are always in the comic book shop and spend hours arguing about if Superman can really die or such other crap right? Or it is the guy you see in the shop who was the weird loner guy who liked to wear Army jackets in high school. And don't forget the guys who almost live in the comic book shop playing Magic the Gathering. That ain't me!

My brother who is also a normal non-supernerd guy went in 2007 and raved about it. "You have to come next time!"

"No ****ing way! They got to you!" I said, but he was relentless.

So he worked me for months until I said yes. Then the morning of I changed my mind: I DO NOT WANT TO GO DAMMIT!! So I asked Mrs. KP if she would tell my bro that I was not feeling well and just give him the money for the pass while I laid on the couch and tried to look sick when he came. She said not to be a jerk and "stop being a wuss, it is only one day and your brother really wants you to go, so just go."

So I did. As I walked in the scales fell off my eyes! Holy **** it was cool! Ok sure, there are nerds and weirdos there, but there is so much more cool stuff and people.

This year I'm pissed that my pals and I got shut out.

And back to you original point about ticket watch, I believe my brother bought passes two days before it started with no troubles and one of our friends who came with us walked up and bought a day pass that morning. They really ****ed it up this go round.

indeed! I am a believer now, I now enjoy seeing folks in their costumes and get ups.

Like I said, the people I usually roll to the Con with all got shut out this year and we are bummed/pissed about it. Truth be told we did not go the "extra mile" to get passes, there are ways to get in, but it is bending the rules and if you caught you or someone else could get banned.

So the weekend of the Con I will be lounging poolside in Palm Desert with a stiff drink in my hand trying not to think about all the fun you folks are having.

Thanks for bursting my bubble. Oh well, I will pass it to my son along with my Wolverine #1 (From the 1980's) and Punisher 2,3,4

Sorry, man. There's no one in the world that wishes Punisher comics were worth something than me, but... unless it's the old Amazing Spider-Man stuff he first appeared in, it ain't.

If your Wolverine is in real good shape, it might be worth a $20-30, though. In which case, you should get it graded.

EDIT: Scratch that. The DC one is silly. . .I'll take the less silly Man of Steel or the Arrow one. :)

Thanks to Sons of Anarchy/Breaking Bad/Archer/Wilfred/Walking Dead for some of the best panels.
Sunday was a great day for an old school Con experience...'met' William Stout(terrific artist and designer of Return of the Living Dead) and a personal GOD, Simon 'the Biz' Bisley...who was a total ass. Couldn't have been less interested. AND...I couldn't have cared less. He signed my book and that's more than I could ask for. Thank you Biz! Oh...and I bought COMIC BOOKS...at the friggin COMICcon. Who'd a thunk it!!!!!!

Sum it up...the laughs, the nerdgasms...the joy of the swag/exclusives, thanks ComiCon for distracting me from my life for four days...See you next year.

P.S. the yearly Kevin Smith(Mayor of SDCC) state of the union address...just good times.
