I know it' recently been tapped earlier this month and I know of a few places here in the South Bay that has it (Naja's in Redondo), but wondering if I could find it at say Yardhouse or somewhere else by Staples? Or if you know some other good spot to have a taste feel free to share that as well.

Pliny the Younger is the harder one to try. Piny the Elder is tapped ofted at Beachwood BBQ in Seal Beach and other places.

I think you are referring to Pliny the Younger, which was tapped earlier this month. Pliny the Elder can be found at many Craft Brew places. Beachwood is having a charity raffle for Pliny the Younger, with tickets being sold through tomorrow. A few of the places that regularly sell Russian River beer will probably have a limited release of Pliny the Younger in the next couple of weeks, but it will go quick.

Tuesday, Feb. 19 - Mohawk Bend. Tapping Pliny the Younger and doing RRB flights of both PTE and PTY as well as Blind Pig (which is my favorite). I am probably going to make a point of taking a business trip to LA that day just to drop in....Only been here twice and I've been able to overlook the hipster element to be able to enjoy the buffalo style cauliflower, poutine, and a few pints of outstanding craft brew. I kinda like this place.

I haven't tried Pliny the Younger, but I do rate Blind Pig above Pliny the Elder. I won't turn either one down, when I see them on tap.

That's awesome. I prefer Pig to Elder as well. It seems like most true craft beer drinkers have that opinion. Just an observation.

I like 'em both, but I prefer Blind Pig b/c it's just a tad bit more balanced IMO. Plus, the lower ABV makes for a longer afternoon/evening of imbibing......:19smile:

Eureka Burger in Claremont rotates between Blind Pig and Elder pretty frequently, so usually one of them is on tap. I have info that they have a keg of Younger in the cellar, but they are being very hush hush on when they will tap it. I'm hoping that because of all the cookies I bring to the bartenders I might get at least a little notice.

How ridiculous. No beer is worth a 6 hour, much less a 1 hour, wait. I say this as a hardcore beer lover. And I'll repeat - NO BEER is worth that sort of wait.

Eureka Burger in Claremont tapped their keg yesterday. THey handled it a little differently than most of the places, and I think it kept the whole event within reason. They announced via Facebook and Instagram the minute it was tapped. The beer was only available in flights of 4 RRBC beers. For $16.00 you got Pliny the Younger, Pliny the Elder, 2 Row Hill 56, and Sanctification. I got there just before 4:00 and met some friends who had a table. At that point the wait for a flight was about 20 minutes, but you could order food and other beers to tide you over. At around 6, they informed us that the wait was about 45 minutes. Every time an order was delivered, they would update you on the wait time, in case you wanted to order another flight. The only thing holding up orders, was the them having flight glasses to serve the beer. I had a nice time with friends, had 2 flights of great beers, and even when I left, the people waiting for tables was no more than would usually be there. As far as the other beers, I have had bot the Elder and Sanctification before, and like them both. I had never had the 2 Row Hill 56 Pale Ale before, but another excellent beer from Russian River.

I had high hopes for R2H56 but I was dissappointed. I love a good session APA but this thing just did not live up to my expectations. Although, I think I should give it another shot...I had it after 3 PTY's, 1 pig, and 1 PTE. My palate was probably destroyed by the prior hoppy beers. What did you think of it? I thought it was overly dry, and lacking on the signature Simcoe hop flavor and aroma. I can find Pig and PTE relatively easy in where I am in Rancho Cucamonga, but I can never find R2H56.

I enjoyed it a lot, but I was drinking it immediately after Sanctification. It was a good bridge between the sour and the hops. Eureka had very limited quantities of both that and Younger. Elder is on tap quite a bit there, and you could have a pint of Elder while waiting for the next flight.

I finally tried Pliny The Elder. Wow, pretty strong stuff. I don't know if it's the hoppiest beer I've tried but it's close. They had it at Total Wine & More in Rancho Cucamonga but it was hidden by the checkout counter. I just happened to spot the sign. Anyway, I liked it a lot.
I'd love to try Pliny The Younger but it almost seems like an impossible task. Isn't it about that time though? Reading through this thread it came out last year around February or March.
I'd also love to try Blind Pig but I haven't seen it anywhere around.

If you are on Twitter or Instagram, you might want to follow Eureka Burger. They have both the Elder and Blind Pig on occasion, and I'm sure they will have Younger again this year. You should also check out Claremont Craft Ales. They had their Triple Dude on tap last week, which is an excellent Triple IPA.

Knee Deep Hoparillo is probably the hoppiest beer I've had recently.
I don't believe Russian River distributes Blind Pig to Socal anymore. I believe they still do with Elder but not positive.
Younger is quite excellent but I personally wouldn't jump through hoops to get some, or any of the aforementioned. YMMV. Lots of beers out there on par with them.

well, every single time i go to SF, i eat at the slanted door in the ferry building. i usually fast all day and then pig out on a family style meal there, lol. and 21st amendment IS indeed super close by. it just so happened that the one day we spent in the city, we drove across the golden gate bridge (first time in 18 years and first time for my kid) to go to santa rosa for russian river. then we drove down the coast from half moon bay to santa cruz and went to sacramento for business. if i end up in SF for more than a day, i will for sure check out the american grilled cheese kitchen because i LOVE me some cheese. :)
oh and i never shop at bevmo anymore because i kind of hate how they keep all their beer on warm shelves. :-/

Finally got my hands on some Younger this year at 38 Degrees in Alhambra. I know many have said no beer is worth waiting that long in line for, but I had to do it. It was a tasty triple IPA but certainly not earth shattering.
But that's okay, I can finally say I've tried it, and I'm good with that. Funny thing is, I got there early in the morning (8:00 am) just to get a ticket that would allow me to come back later and get a flight of RR beers including the Younger. But when I came back a few hours later to get a table and the flight, people were just showing up and getting the flight without a ticket. Lesson learned for next year, if I choose to do it again.

I DEED IT! I finally got to try Pliny The Younger. Slater's 50/50 in Anaheim Hills has it today. They're selling flights of Younger, Elder, Blind Pig, & Row 2 Hill 56. I got here about 2 hours before the tickets went on sale, which was early but OK since it's my day off. Anyway, I know it's close to the point where the hype overtakes the reality. But it's really an excellent beer. I thought it would be super hoppy but it's not. It's actually pretty smooth with a bit of fruitiness. Not that I mind hoppiness. But anyway besides this flight I also had Damnation, Elder, & Pig on tap. And all of them are terrific . But Pliny the Younger wins & is definitely worth it.
