Puig never ceases to amaze.

How about that 20 million dollar a year mistake better known as Kemp hitting into another double play. That dude seriously sucks.

Double plays happen every single game. Running into triple plays happen to Puig.

It's so fundamentally stupid and shows next to zero base-running awareness.

He needs to be better.

Shhhh:32smile:...don't tell people Matt Kemp once did this because he wasn't paying attention to the game.

I can't even count the number of times Yasiel Puig has done that.

If you're going to bring up an example of Kemp being stupid on the basepaths, why look further than this?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ATVWNz8ONI

Again, running into a triple play is inexcusably stupid.

Pointing out Kemp's bad baserunning in no way makes Puig's repeated blunders less stupid.

Yah because if Puig would have stopped at 3rd then the Dodgers for sure would have scored 10 runs that inning and won the game.

Not trying to defend Puig's stupidity here. I agree that his baserunning blunder was beyond dumb.

Just pointing out as always that Kemp is far from being the ying to Puig's yang. They're both guilty of being really stupid at times. Case and point in yesterday's game when Kemp just assumed Dee Gordon was going to make a play on a ball, but once the ball got past Dee Matt tried to overcompensate and almost created a two run in the park home run. Thankfully Puig's speed and arm bailed Kemp out on that one, and just limited it to a one run triple. The game was tied right before that though, so in grand scheme of things Puig triple play on what already was a two out inning (thanks to Kemp) of a blowout game was not the back breaker people were making it out to be.

The Dodgers were going to lose that game either way. Puig's one really stupid play was just one the flavors of the crap sundae the Dodgers served up yesterday. Kevin Correria was the maker of the sundae.

This is the most important and concerning aspect of the loss on Sunday. Correia makes Roberto Hernandez look like Greinke. Ryu needs to get healthy fast because the rotation has an Ace, a #2 (http://letsgokings.com/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=2) with a bum elbow and 3 question marks with 5 weeks left.

It helps position player MVP candidates aren't very strong this year. Maybe Stanton but it looks like its Clayton's to lose. Its very similar to getting a reliever enough votes for Cy Young.

Seeing Kerhsaw this season though... THAT is a true ace of a staff. The guy affects games he's not in by saving the bullpen, relaxing his teammates and demoralizing the opposition. A true joy to watch.

Puig has had a great season. He's turned himself into a legitimate option in CF. He's put up good power numbers. He gets on base better than anyone on the roster not named Turner(how absurd is this, btw) but offensively he's in a bad place right now. 1 for his last 23. It's a slump. He'll break out of it soon but in the month of August his slash line looks terrible .217/.301/.239 (22 total bases) over 92 ABs. That qualifies as lost at the plate, to me.

3/4 of the managers in baseball would've pinch run for Ellis when he got to first. The other 1/4 would've definitely done it when Ellis got to second. Nope. Not Donnie baseball.

You mean Hernandez and Corriea weren't great trades by Colleti? <sarcasm/>

If all it took to get Price was Pederson I would have done it yesterday. Dodgers are deep at OF and as long as they don't trade Seager and Urias I would have been happy. But who knows what Tampa wanted. But not much compared to what Detroit gave up.

Saw Urias a lot in Rancho this season. Has potential, but is not major league ready. Only three players I've seen down in the Single A level where I would say they need to be on a major league team right now. Those three were Kenley Jansen, Yasiel Puig, and Mike Trout.

The bullpen is as bad as people make it out to be, it's just Donnie always puts the worst players on the bullpen in the worst situations possible. JP is normally only used for 1 or 2 batters. Today for some reason (the one game JP clearly didn't have stuff) Mattingly for some reason felt the need to have throw against half a dozen guys. This loss is 100% Mattingly.

So, 6 more IP for Dan Haren and his $10MM team option for next year, turns into a player option.

I think I'm okay with that if he really is the #5 (http://www.letsgokings.com/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=5) next year. The problem is he's most certainly not going to be the #5 (http://www.letsgokings.com/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=5) . He's probably going to be the #4 (http://www.letsgokings.com/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=4) , just like this season, and an even scarier thought is he could end up being the #3 (http://www.letsgokings.com/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=3) in the Postseason THIS year due to the paper thin pitching depth Ned has assembled this season.

It's great that the team is on the verge of clinching the West but do we have enough pitching to get us to the World Series? I don't see it.

94 wins in spite of missing Kershaw for 4 weeks, combined with Ryu and Beckett missing huge chunks of the season is very impressive.

This team has the best offensive depth of the Colletti era but the pitching is very questionable. Pretty much the polar opposite of all the Colletti-built playoff teams. Maybe this is the right combo to win it all.

Agreed but even if you give him 10M x 5, youre going to get two very good years out or him. There's nothing in the system and there's next to nothing available in the free agent market. Our options suck.

Dawdler
October 1st, 2014, 09:24 PM
I don't think Martin, would want to come back here, he left on a sour note because he felt he was low balled by flanders and signed with the yanks for 500 grand less then what the Dodgers offered. I'm sure if Martin was a relief pitcher flanders would have paid him triple what he's worth.

KingsFan1985
October 2nd, 2014, 02:43 PM
I also would like a Martin/Ellis combo, but in reality that's never going to happen. Besides the issue that Martin is going to be paid like a top 5 catcher while only playing at the most 60% of the time, there is also another set of issues with Martin that were a big reason why he didn't work out in LA and NY long term. Lifestyle and personality issues that would pop back up if he moved back to a city with a night life. It's probably for the best Martin gets paid and stays out with the Pirates where he and clutch can be the captains of that franchise.

So what does Ned do in the short and long term at Catcher?

THIS!

Yes, Kershaw melted down again for the second playoff game in a row but if we had anyone dependable in that bullpen outside of Kenley, even Mattingley is smart enough to give Kershaw the hook after 5 out of 6 batters got on base. Hell, Kershaw allowing a HR to a left handed batter in the 6th inning should've been a huge warning sign that he was about to hit a wall.

Should we end up losing this series, the only positive to come from it will be the firing of Colletti and Mattingly.

Agreed. It wasn't foolish to want trade Kemp two months ago, but it was foolish to excuse all of his poor play on a injury he had fully recovered from a long time ago. Kemp's problems were in his head, not his body, and Colletti clearly didn't see that.

Does Mattingly have dementia, or can't he count.?

He was interviewed during the game last night, and said we can go with Kershaw because we didn't make him throw 120-130 pitches in game one. Implication being Kershaw wasn't over extended. One little problem he threw 110 pitches in game one. That's pretty damn close to 120.

Seems so logical that it won't happen. They need to move Either or Crawford to Seattle for a couple of the relievers out of the Seattle pen. I live in Seattle and they had the best pen in the AL this year and now they need an OF bat, preferably a right handed but Either might excite them. Don't try and get the young starters from them - they will hang onto those arms but you could probably pry Furbush and another good reliever from them with an Either option. If you want to get really creative deal Kemp (as much as I would hate to see this happen to my Dodgers) but Ned has to make some moves.

This series loss, coupled with the gnats winning, ticks me off so much! I hate the cards.
