OK here is the picture that I had and the halo/glow around the point of the rock REALLY bugged me. After some research I discovered it's lens aberration and defringe is the solution. Still learning what the controls do but love the results already. (I didn't adjust for the right side gold halo, have to go back and do that)

Hey everyone! Allow me to get this off my chest first...GO KINGS! Okay.

We'll be having a small firework "show" at our house this year with the kiddos. I've taken pictures of larger fireworks in the past and the results were pretty good (see photo). However, I've never taken photos of safe/sane fireworks. Since they will be much closer and shoot tons of sparks, does anyone here have any suggestions on distance, aperture, focal length, ISO settings, etc? I'm considering myself a total NOOB when it comes to this. I'd love any suggestions I can get.

Taken a few days ago at Point Lobos. A deer and her fawn were hanging out a few feet away and paying no regard to our presence. Such a magic experience.

I also poll the class at the same time I am telling them this, asking them how many people have kept a diary. I usually get a fair number, half to 2/3rds, and as I continue to tell them, rattling off the list of what they shouldn’t photograph, I ask by a show of hands how many people have attempted to write a poem even if they never showed anyone. Then I continue with the list and return for the last question - How many have written a love letter or a letter home? I then tell them that whatever it is they were trying to express in their diary, or poem, or love letter or letter home, is what their photographs should be about. I doubt whether they were writing about old people or Chinatown or children playing in the park. At least I hope not.

my favorite picture I have ever taken. Kings vs. Leafs Jan 12 2015. Taken with my totally non-professional camera from my seat, through the glass. Caught it at just the right moment. An old Konica camera from the late 90s. EDIT: Camera model is Konica/Minolta DiMage Z6. 35mm-420mm lens (I don't even really know what that means!) I have had someone offer me a lot of money for this camera in the past. Never selling.

What do you use for editing?

lightroom 3.something

Lightroom 5 has a LOT of updates. You should upgrade! They have Lightroom and Photoshop available as a package in the cloud for a few bucks a month.

I won the entire Adobe package for a year and all I use is Lightroom and Photoshop. If you are student or a teacher you can get it even cheaper.

I wasn't happy with the pics and managed to salvage that pic but not great quality. I plan on going back to the spot next time we visit the brother-in-law and get it right. ;)

It seems like many times it takes a couple of visits, one for scouting and one for nailing it.

Thats the problem with sunrise/sunset shots. You only get one chance or you wait another 24 hours.

In a moment of weakness I ordered a Canon 6D last night for our trip to Kona on the 13th. The wife and I have been using a 20D and a 40D up to now. I've been smart enough to purchase EF lenses (not EF-S) over the years in anticipation of a full frame DSLR.

I can't wait to slap our Canon 100mm Macro lens on that baby.

Been playing with this 3d camera my aunt gave me. I been wanting to buy one and when I told her, she just randomly had it... I offer my stuff for web licensing at $500/image and negotiate per image and use if it's for print/advertising/etc depending upon whether or not it's single use or continuous license.

LA Derby Dolls last night. Getting my lighting situated a little better each bout. I have a flash on the pink pole on each end of the rink and then I turn them off and on depending on which end I am on. Allows me to wander more and get better action shots instead of being stuck in one place.

My old P&S Canon PowerShot 870IS broke after a decent run a few months ago so I just picked up a Canon PowerShot S120 which is pretty damn good and fits in a pocket no problem. Nice manual controls and a pretty decent lens for the form factor. Cheaper than the Sony RX line which I hear are great but a little bigger than I wanted for a p&S.
I have an old Cell phone so I really don't rely on it for picture taking...so, now I can take food pictures again!!!

Being as out of practice as I am, and considering how challenging a location this is to shoot, these images from Upper Antelope Canyon, AZ turned out ok. I'm pleased.

You can make a brush and blur it out if there is just a little. I see that halo effect in a lot of pics online. Some of those adjustments like clarity and vibrant are very sensitive.

I lost my camera at the LA Galaxy v FC Dallas US Open Cup match a couple of weeks ago. Galaxy were leading 1-0 and gave up 2 goals within the last 5 minutes to lose the match. I was so mad that I stormed out of the arena and left my camera sitting in a cup holder. Nobody turned it in, so someone out there has a very nice camera. I bought it a last March to take pictures during a trip to New York City to watch the Kings vs Devils and vs Rangers (had to leave before the Isles match). I hope whoever has it enjoys it as much as I did. Saving for another camera now, but it will be a while before I can get one. If I have some of the pictures saved from that trip, I'll post some of them in memoriam to my poor, lost camera. :(

The thing is that i'm fixing my boys hobbyroom where they will mostly be playing floorball and i want a complete photo wallpaper on one of the walls.

Just picked up this lighting kit:

These things are pretty impressive! Full TTL with the camera-top wireless trigger (sold separately). Solid build for the price point. BATTERY-POWERED without the expensive and heavy packs. Gonna go test it out right now.

Crazy powerful off-camera TTL. Even with the sun behind her, this thing (single strobe) didn't hit but about 70% power.

The ONLY negative is that the "ready" noise it makes is goddamned annoying.
