Also featuring Christopher Plummer, Toni Collette, Stellan Skarsg?rd, and Jean Reno, the story follows a psychiatrist who is unable to help his patients, and goes on a journey to figure out what's wrong with himself before he can help others. And lots of exotic places will help him put things in perspective or something.

Simon Pegg says Edgar Wright's Ant-Man departure is a 'terrible shame' | Film | theguardian.com (http://www.theguardian.com/film/2014/jun/17/simon-pegg-on-edgar-wright-ant-man-departure?CMP=twt_gu)

"I think it's a terrible shame. I get why perhaps it's happened. Maybe they want a particular thing in line with a particular other thing, but if you hire a director who has a particular vision, you've got to expect him or her to make a 'such and such film'. 'An Edgar Wright film.'

"That's what that script was, and it was interesting. The characters had a real journey. I can't really say too much about it because obviously it's not my thing, but it's their loss," he added, laughing.

Edgar Wright To Direct Adaptation Of YA Novel 'Grasshopper Jungle' | The Playlist (http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/edgar-wright-to-direct-adaptation-of-ya-novel-grasshopper-jungle-20140725)

Deadline reports that Sony have tapped Wright to helm Andrew Smith's YA novel "Grasshopper Jungle," which they describe as "Stand By Me" meets "Attack The Block." Scott Rosenberg ("Con Air," "High Fidelity") is penning the script for this unusual coming-of-age tale, and we'll let the Booklist synopsis do the talking:

Simmering within Ealing, Iowa, is a deadly genetically engineered plague capable of unleashing unstoppable soldiers—six-foot-tall praying mantises with insatiable appetites for food and sex. No one knows it, of course, until Austin and his best friend Robby accidentally release it on the world. An ever-growing plague of giant, flesh-hungry insects is bad enough, but Austin is also up to his eyeballs in sexual confusion—is he in love with Robby or his girlfriend, Shann? Both of them make him horny, but most things do. In an admittedly futile attempt to capture the truth of his history, painfully honest Austin narrates the events of the apocalypse intermingled with a detailed account of the “connections that spiderweb through time and place,” leading from his great-great-great-grandfather Andrzej in Poland to Shann’s lucky discovery of an apocalypse-proof bunker in her new backyard.

Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright Working Together on New Movie (http://collider.com/simon-pegg-edgar-wright-new-movie/)

In the interview with BBC, Pegg added:
When we said the trilogy was over, it was because that group of films was over. They’re all kind of related with each other and deal with a specific idea. There’s a criteria to those films…The next thing we do won’t do that, it will just be something else. It will happen. We made three films in ten years and hopefully in the next decade we’ll make another three…I really love working with those guys and I wouldn’t ever not want to work with them. It’s not even a question.

The filming must have been a delight to shoot, and a great opportunity for the cast and crew to bask in the sun and enjoy the magnificent Australian beaches behind the scenes. In front of the cameras, however, the result is a lame attempt at channeling the energy of a Quentin Tarantino or Doug Liman film. From the electric guitar on the soundtrack to the predictable duplicitous nature of practically every single character, “Kill Me Three Times” kills all the fun by the time you reach the halfway point. By then, you just feel like hitting the mute button and enjoying the stunning Australian locale. [D-]

First ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING Images Have Simon Pegg Using Magic Powers in Terry Jones’ Sci-Fi Film That Reunites Monty Python Members
Read more at http://collider.com/absolutely-anything-images/#FRImmPDUs2QaTcHK.99

The first Absolutely Anything images have gone online, and while they don’t tell us too much about the movie, it’s still nice to get a first look at Terry Jones‘ upcoming sci-fi film. Simon Pegg stars as Neil Clarke, a secondary school teacher who is given magical powers by aliens. While that may seem fanciful, there seems to be a delightfully twisted edge to it. “He can make anything happen”, says Jones, “[but] he doesn’t realize it until his colleague says, ‘What would you do if you could do anything?’ and Neil responds with, ‘I’d make an alien spaceship hit class 4C and vaporize them.’ Then there’s an explosion in the school, and they run to 4C’s classroom, open the door and there’s a vast hole in the ground.”

Nick Frost To Topline ABC Comedy From Ben Karlin (http://deadline.com/2014/10/nick-frost-comedy-ben-karlin-abc-857425/)

In a competitive situation, ABC has bought The Finger, a single-camera comedy written by Ben benkarlinKarlin (Modern Family) and starring British writer-actor Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz, Shaun Of The Dead). The project, from ABC Studios and 3 Arts, will have Frost star as Nick Ferguson aka The Finger, the world’s most famous jewel thief who wants to quit his life of crime, open up a humble sandwich shop and do right by his 9-year-old son — and all of that is really hard to do. Karlin will co-write the story with Frost and will executive produce with 3 Arts’ David Miner.

The movie actually looks really funny, which is a tad ironic considering Scott most recently directed Vaughn in the very unfunny Delivery Man. There look to be some fantastic supporting turns from Dave Franco and Tom Wilkinson as Vaughn’s new partners, and Nick Frost is a very welcome face amongst the cast as well. Additionally, this is certainly one of the most NSFW red-band trailers I’ve seen in a while.

Nancy (Lake Bell), is done with dating. 10 times bitten, 100 times shy, she’s exhausted by the circus. So when Jack (Simon Pegg) blindly mistakes her for his date, no one is more surprised than her when she does the unthinkable and just —- goes with it. It’s going to take a night of pretending to be someone else for Nancy to finally Man Up and be her painfully honest, awesomely unconventional self… but will Jack also Man Up, and be able to get over her duplicity? Best just to let the evening unfold, roll with the consequences, and see if one crazy, unpredictable, complicated night can bring these two messy souls together.

Tribeca Review: Romantic Comedy 'Man Up' Starring Simon Pegg And Lake Bell (http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/tribeca-review-romantic-comedy-man-up-starring-simon-pegg-and-lake-bell-20150423)

Bell and Pegg exhibit a fizzy and immediate chemistry that holds consistently throughout the film, a tall order considering how many different permutations their relationship goes through over the course of just one evening. Pegg has repeatedly tried his hand at funny love stories in the past, but he’s never been as gamely cast as a romantic lead as he is here. Although both Nancy and Jack have issues to spare, they are wholly recognizable in their apparent oddness. They’re actual characters – not caricatures – that will likely remind the audience of their cool friend so-and-so or the fun guy at work, not some larger-than-life wacko who is kitted out with quirks and oddities for the sake of making a film more amusing or off-kilter. They’re people well deserving of love, just like “Man Up.” [A-]

Basically running with the same premise as "Bruce Almighty," the story follows a disillusioned schoolteacher who finds himself imbued with the power to make anything happen, thanks to some aliens who watch everything unfold from space. And so the hapless man does everything from making his dog talk to making his dog's poop pick itself up, all while giving himself a bigger penis.

According To Simon Pegg, Superhero Movies Are Dumbing Us All Down
http://uproxx.com/movies/2015/05/according-to-simon-pegg-superhero-movies-are-dumbing-us-all-down/

“Before Star Wars, the films that were box-office hits were The Godfather, Taxi Driver, Bonnie And Clyde and The French Connection – gritty, amoral art movies.

(…)

“Now we’re walking out of the cinema really not thinking about anything, other than the fact that the Hulk just had a fight with a robot.”

Pegg, who will appear in the new science fiction comedy Absolutely Anything, professes he’d like to hang up the geek hat and try for more dramatic roles:

“Sometimes (I) feel like I miss grown-up things,” he said. “And I honestly thought the other day that I’m gonna retire from geekdom.

“I’ve become the poster child for that generation, and it’s not necessarily something I particularly want to be. I’d quite like to go off and do some serious acting.”

Edgar Wright’s ‘Collider’ Gets a New, Non-Collider Writer
http://collider.com/edgar-wright-collider-gets-new-writer-for-original-sci-fi-movie/

Back in July 2012, the formidable filmmaking team of Edgar Wright, J.J. Abrams, and Mark Protosevich came together to begin developing a secretive sci-fi film for Paramount called Collider. Wright is still attached to direct, Abrams is producing through Bad Robot, and Protosevich—whose credits also include I Am Legend and Spike Lee’s Oldboy—wrote the screenplay.

“It’s a kind of movie I haven’t seen for a long time. There’s a particular kind of sci-fi film that I feel has been missing from our screens for a while.”

Jamie Foxx Has Joined Edgar Wright’s Next Movie, ‘Baby Driver’
http://uproxx.com/filmdrunk/2015/09/jamie-foxx-edgar-wright-baby-driver/

For those of us who are disappointed that we’ll never get to see Edgar Wright’s version of Ant-Man, there’s a silver lining: Edgar Wright doing his own movie with no one from Disney meddling in it. The film is called Baby Driver, currently scheduled for March 2017, and Jamie Foxx has just joined the cast, alongside Ansel Elgort and Lily James, reports Deadline.

The film follows a crime boss who coerces a young, talented getaway driver to work for him. Elgort pays the driver, who relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best. He must face the music when a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom.

Well that sounds delightfully bizarre. It’s hard to say from that brief description, but I’m envisioning a Hot Fuzz-esque homage to car-porn films like Drive, Bullitt, or Getaway, starring Selena Gomez. In Scott Pilgrim and The World’s End, Edgar Wright proved he can do fist-fight choreography better as a (semi) joke than most action directors can do for serious, so I’m excited to see what he can do with the car chase.

Not exactly thrilled with the cast so far, but I have an obscene amount of faith in Edgar Wright. I keep reading rumors that, due to the soundtrack heavy nature of the plot, this is supposed to be Wright's 'musical'. That idea pleases me.

Check Out Edgar Wright’s List of His 1,000 Favorite Films
http://collider.com/edgar-wright-favorite-films-list/

Scrolling to the bottom will reveal his favorite movies from recent years, and his only favorite from 2016 so far is The Neon Demon. Let’s hope the remaining months will change that. Some of his faves from 2015 include The Witch, The Martian, The Lobster, The Hateful Eight, Spotlight, Sicario, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Creed, Ex Machina, Carol, and Green Room.

This is a little misleading, because, for example, Green Room had festival screenings in 2015 but its theatrical release was 2016. I think the same applies to The Lobster and The Witch, so there are 4 movies that I would consider from 2016.

Also, it should be noted that he has the luxury of not including his own films, because I'd put several of them in my top 1000 for sure.

Edgar Wright’s Next Film ‘Grasshopper Jungle’ in Final Negotiations to Land at New Regency
http://collider.com/edgar-wright-grasshopper-jungle-movie/#new-regency

‘Baby Driver’ Is The Coolest Movie Of The Summer
http://uproxx.com/movies/baby-driver-review/

Baby Driver feels like an “eff you” movie.

It’s been four years since we’ve had an Edgar Wright-directed film, The World’s End. Obviously most people know Wright was supposed to direct Ant-Man, but creative differences between Marvel and Wright let to Wright leaving that project and, with it, a lot of time was wasted. Baby Driver is a very different kind of Wright project. It’s got an attitude that his previous films don’t have. Baby Driver forgoes the almost loosey-goosey tone of his earlier work and replaces that with a focused, stylized crime drama that has a chip on its shoulder.

This is where I declare Baby Driver to be Wright’s best movie. But with Wright’s movies, it gets tricky to make such a declaration. His past films have such a rabid following – and this one is so different – I could see a situation where his hardcore fans look at Baby Driver as not exactly what they were expecting. But, personally, I kind of like this version of Wright, one with a proverbial chip on his shoulder – this version of Wright, that in reality has nothing to prove by this point in his career, but feels the need to go ahead prove a point anyway. Baby Driver is a total “eff you” movie

If you have a great sound system and you can crank it up, I guess you could see it at home. Otherwise, see it in a good theater. Especially one with Dolby Atmos.

I saw it in one of the smaller rooms at CityWalk. Great news: recliner seats. Even better news: Dolby Atmos. Yeah, most of the time I was just absorbed by the movie, but a couple of times the Atmos music remix really called itself out nicely.
