speaking of those pickups is there a game this weekend?
Damn will be there this sat night, could play if there is a post game game
I have played ice many, many... many times. I like both ice and roller, but currently I'm playing neither due to my injury. I've got a group of guys that I trust and that trust me, so the type of hockey is not really relevant to me. I just like roller a bit better at the moment because of price.
Great game last night.
5 guys, so just one sub.
Played 43 of 45 minutes. Got hit on the ankle with a shot at the end of the first. That **** hurts now. A lot.
We win, 3-1. The one was a PPG, so most of us were +3. Good times.
At minimum I have another month until my ankle is strong enough for skating. As a point of reference I broke my fibula about 2-weeks before Pearson did. At this moment I'm glad I can walk. My ankle still hurts here and there, but my range of motion is slowly coming back. Hopefully my comeback won't be too painful.
Double header last night. Won the first game easily 5-3, game was not as close as the score. Our goalie just had a bad night. A small thing but I'm gonna bitch about it anyway. The refs in the game are notorious for not giving assists if the pass doesn't happen in the offensive zone. Not to toot my own horn too much but I popped three guys streaking through center ice from our goal line who went straight in to score. Not a single assist was given.
Game 2 however was as hard fought 9-2 loss as you could have. It was still 0's halfway through the second when I experienced my first in game stanchion goal. Our goalie jumped behind the net on the dump and sure as **** it came off the glass right in (I was in the box for clearing the crease after a late whistle caused our goalie grief). Skating only 9 guys (one in rental skates) it was a bit of a demoralizer. Right after that they got a breakaway and scored a legit goal. Following that they had a cross corner dump that one of our D stuck a leg out on and deflected back into our net. We came back to 3-1 but the wheels were coming off. By the third they were just overwhelming us. To the refs credit he did toss a guy for celebrating their 6-2 goal with an unsportsmanlike (it was his 4th penalty of the game).
Yes, however Roller leagues I've played in required 3-4 seasons per year (12-15 games) where Ice seasons were always half the year (20-25 games), so something to consider as well.
I should also note that I have not played in a roller leave in about 5 years, but I feel this hasn't changed.
Excellent point. The one at HB Inline is like that, 10 regular season games, with up to 2 or 3 playoff games, depending where ya get seeded. They usually start the next season the following week, no down time at all.
At Lakewood Ice, we play 14 games, plus 2 or 3 playoff games. I believe there are 3 seasons a year? It all depends on the holidays and what not.
I have the worlds rustiest cage.
I prefer a cage rather than a visor.
I also wear a cage. I used to wear a half shield but after too many close calls (getting hit in the face with errant sticks) and luckily not losing any teeth I went back to a cage. One time on a fore-check I got nailed hard with a puck in the cheek bone area of my cage as their defenseman was trying to clear it on a penalty kill, it actually dented the cage. If I had my visor on, it for sure would have shattered my face.
White Cascade M11 lid with the Cascade cage.
Interesting...thanks for the input!! I was kind of reluctant to use a full cage but it sounds like it's the prudent way to go, especially if I'm playing with other inexperienced players who may be swinging their sticks around all over the place...
I have the full face visor. It was the one from the company in CO. Paid for itself the 1st time an errant puck fly into my face. Love my M11 helmet too.
yeah there's no shame in protecting your face! sure, chicks dig scars and all that but i'm already getting married.
I wear a half-shield. I see the puck better and a preference
Full shield a must in lower leagues where players don't have the full control of their sticks.
I have had some close calls though that give me a hint to change.
I can't wait for pix of the Rusty Cage Battle Royale!

@Nyssa42
The rusty gauntlet crumbled when I threw it, but it's down!
Ok, @jammer06, even without posting my pic, I say "you win". You put that thing near your face????
Nothing remarkable about last weekends game, other than I took a deflected shot right off the cage. Surprisingly it survived!
I know I posted this in my goalie thread, but I thought I would let you guys know again that I took a shot square in the nuts last night, and it didn't hurt! :)
damn, last week i blocked a shot coming from the slot and it hit me right between the glove and elbow pad. stung like hell!
I've been out with post concussion syndrome (non-hockey related injury) for the last three and half weeks. Still not better yet and now I'm getting a cold on top of it.
Protect your melons, folks! This **** ain't fun at all.
