Congrats on the win fellas, its a great feel! Super douchey about the sandbagger, it never seizes to amaze me that people do that, in rookie of all leagues!!! Congrats to PGKG for tickling the twine, twice!!!
I hope ya get on a team too Jammer, I'm sure they'll find ya a spot!!!
We had our 2nd game of the season, and my first game of the season with this new team last night. I was a bit apprehensive after looking at last weeks score, they lost 14-4! I had no idea of what to expect, especially after seeing that score. I talked to some of the guys before the game and they said their regular goalie is horrible.....grrrreat. Last night, we had a sub goalie that has played for them before, and he was solid, he has been in the pipes for 15 years!
So we get out to the benches, wait for the Zam doors to close and then we begin warm ups. After a couple minutes I heard a loud ping/clash/smash noise at the other end of the ice. Holy crap, one of their players managed to shatter a pane of glass right behind their goal. The crew is quickly on the seen (two rink workers), well 45 minutes go by, and two pieces of ply-wood, with one having to be cut right then and there on the spot, we finally started our 7:50pm game at 8:45pm! This was cool though because it gave me extra time to warm up off and on during the repair job. I still am not feeling 100% like my old skater self yet, but I'm getting close.
On to the game, I was paired up on D with the Captain, so that was cool! We had 3 full forward lines and I didn't want to mess with any of that business, we had two lines of D, awwww, it was so nice to just go every other shift and not worry about ice time! :) I'd say overall our teams were evenly matched. What beer league game wouldn't be complete without the other team having a ringer though??? Sure enough, they had an upper Silver player on their team, "Dr. Dangles" we dubbed him. Ironically, we didn't allow him to score. They went up 1-0 in the first period, then we tied it up in the 2nd. Then they went up 2-1 in the 2nd. We tied it up about midway through the 3rd, and then we scored the go-ahead and GWG late in the 3rd with 1:30 left on the clock! Final score, 3-2, we win!
It felt great to be back out there, and it felt great to get the W after trailing by 1 goal for 90% of the game. I had a couple rushes from our blue line into their zone that resulted a couple of shots from just inside the circles, that felt good. My skating is getting closer to where it used to be, 1 or 2 more games and I should be fully dialed in again!
Speaking of skates, I have been debating on getting a new pair, as my current Graf Ultra G5's are 4 years old now, and I never loved them, they just never fit right after a couple of bakes and multiple punchings. The biggest issue is a small bone spur? that has developed on the inside big toe joint where it meets my foot. That thing is a major pain as it causes a lot of discomfort when pressure is applied when skating. Last night I tried those soft rubber Corn Cushions on the area, and initially it worked, but then the pain returned. It is in the area basically where the toe cap meets the boot, along the inside portion of the skate. I tried on a few pairs of skates over the weekend at Hockey Giant (in the $199 range). The Bauer Nexus, a Bauer Supreme and a CCM Jetspeed. I wanted to try the CCM Ribcor (with the pump), but they steered me away saying they were garbage. I have narrowed it down to the Bauer Supreme s160 and the CCM JetSpeed 270. The JetSpeed fit a bit better to me, with less discomfort in the rear arch area. I know once baked, and skated on, they will fit better, but right out of the box, the CCM just fit like a glove, not too loose, not too snug, just about right!
**I just checked the scoresheet, and I got credit for the game winning goal.....and I wasn't even on the ice for it!!**
