Yeah, I'm hoping to acquire Vladimir Tarasenko, Gabriel Landeskog and/or even Ryan Suter.

That team had very high end young players that were making an impact such as Kopitar and Doughty.

This current roster is not near where the roster was when we picked up Richards and Carter.

Our younger talent then was probably more talented.

Yeah it's like you'd need a DL type to come in now and make the bold moves. Still hoping Blake proves me wrong though.

Does it mean something that we traded 2 picks to move up to draft 2 players so far today?

Blake did a great job at the draft, as he always do. That is not and have never been a problem. But you can’t win with ”just” prospects, now is the time to decide which ones to keep and which ones to trade for proven talent (age 24-28) that together with the old core and the young ones can take this team to the next level.

And you can't do that unless these prospects get a chance to play. By trading them off now (for some other team's problem players) you never get the chance.

BTW, the Kings don't have "just" prospects...that is what Doughty, Kopitar and Brown are for.

Read my last comment again, especially the last part about the old core…

By the time this draft is over...our prospects from the first two rounds will be 35 year old rookies...

Yup. It means that they got really lucky with Pinelli falling to them. He was rated #19 on the NHL draft board and #23 in McKenzie's ratings, which is a composite of 10 scouts he polls.

Helenius was rated #52 on the NHL draft board and #44 by McKenzie. He's 6'6" with great hands and has the potential to be scoring power forward.

The Arvidsson deal is probably closer to the O'Sullivan/Williams trade as far as pushing the team's trajectory. If Blake can add another piece or two in free agency this team should have a shot at the playoffs next season.
