Default Did Evander Kane Bet on NHL Games?

Shades of Grant Fuhr, with Kane's wife coming forward saying he bet on his own games and even threw games.

I bet the NHL will take a close look at Sharks games to see if there's any blatantly obvious plays he made to shift the course of the outcome of the contest.

And it's impossible not to think of Grant Fuhr, whose wife came out and said during his Stanley Cup run with the Oilers he was coked-out of his mind one-third of the time. She got very specific and said if you watch his games you'll see he was a world beater two games in a row when he was coked-out, and then had a bad game on his third game when he was coming down off the coke. She said that cycle repeated itself for six seasons. I always thought his reflexes were other-worldly.

Which leads to another performance-enhancing drug: LSD.

In June 1970, Dock Ellis, a starting pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates, was in a Los Angeles hotel visiting a friend while his teammates were getting ready to take on the Padres in San Diego. He took a hit of acid and stayed up all night drinking. He took another hit the next afternoon...believing he was not going to pitch...when he got the call: He was going to be pitching that night .

He pitched a no-hitter, the only no-hitter of his career, against the Padres. At one point during the game he thought Richard Nixon was the home plate umpire and the batter was Jimi Hendrix who was swinging a guitar at the ball.

He said the strike zone looked as wide as the ocean. I can relate.

There were so many drugs going around the base in North Chicago when I was stationed there, they had to shut the base down at one point because over half the sailors were in restrictive custody for drugs (it made international headlines). One of my roommates said he enlisted in the Navy just to deal drugs, and in his locker he had every imaginable drug on the shelves, and he emptied that locker every day and had to refill it every night. I never seen so many drugs in my life...cocaine, cannabinol, LSD, PCP...name it.

So one day we dropped a hit of acid and went to the gymnasium to shoot some hoops, and decided to play horse with two black guys for five bucks a game.

The acid kicked in the middle of shooting free throws from the top of the key. I couldn't miss. The basket looked like it was 5 feet in diameter. I hit 19 out of 20 shots and the only one I missed was because I was laughing so hard. Once I was dialed-in, it was almost impossible to miss. Replicating physical mechanics under the influence of LSD turned out to be the easiest thing in the world. The look on the black guys faces was priceless. "That white boy can shoot!"

I'm sure Dock Ellis can relate. Steroids aren't the only performance-enhancing drug.

As for Evander Kane, I wonder what the investigation will turn up. If they find some blatantly obvious plays where he intentionally screwed up, I believe he played his last game in the NHL.

And the morale to the story is: Watch out who you marry!

I find viewing LAK games (2015 to present) much more interesting during an altered state of consciousness….
Great post RoR, you should reenact that game of horse and try going 20/20.

Regarding Kane: the guy may be a mess off the ice but I can see a distraught / crazy partner making outrageously false claims. Shouldn’t be too difficult to prove or disprove.

Yeah, she said it's obvious he was throwing games. I don't recall there ever being any discussion anywhere among hockey fans about Kane throwing a game. So apparently it was not so obvious to the outside world. She may know something, but her post doesn't actually contain any information to support the allegation.

I don't think Kane married the wrong woman though. I think she married the wrong man. But I don't know why she thought posting this was a good idea. She obviously is upset (for very good reasons it appears) and trying to harm him. This wasn't her attempt to get him help. They will probably get divorced. She was already going to have a devil of a time collecting spousal and child support. I imagine it will be even harder now. And if there is anything to the allegation, his contract will end up getting terminated.

Oh, and before I forget, this is example 7,146 of why Doug Wilson is an idiot.

I don't think he was throwing games but I would not be surprised if he bet on hockey. Gambling addiction can make people do dumb things as we've see with other folks.

How does a 25-30 goal a season winger throw a game?

    This.
I wouldn't put anything past an addict.
Never considered how a hockey forward could throw a game. Goalie is obvious.

The Kings lost like 5 outta 6 games against these Sharks last season.

And it's even possible that one of the players tried to throw the game for the Sharks.

Now I am even more depressed, haha.
