Default Pronman: Prospect ranking drops to 5

My cliff notes: Turcotte over Vilardi but both stocks are slowly falling

Pronman has always had a hard on for Kaliyev so I wouldn't read too much into it but it does reach more into the concept that the mounting evidence is that Kopitar's replacement is now viewed as QB and everyone else doesn't have the pedigree to step in and immediately challenge the established players. I remember the howling with this article last year was that they were 13 after having a number 1. Basically the view from Pronman is that they are developing pluggers and he doesn't see much future for Mikey and Toby. So while there is a lot of young NHL capable talent, there's not much in the way of All Star talent. Between Todd and Trent, I'd say this season hinges a whole lot more on Trent getting the young D core to move forward more than it does even to get Doughty to play at his max level.

I'm still worried they made a mistake picking Byfield over Stutzle and went for a less talented player because he was bigger.

Actually, he had us #13 last year, so our ranking is up.

Nothing to be too upset about. Though Pronman's logic does sometimes make me shake my head, the criteria for this is strictly age. It pretty much aligns with the 2017 draft onward, so it includes many players who are in the NHL for a few years already. For the Kings, they have log-jams at center and they also are more patient with their prospects than other teams, so Vilardi and Turcotte's times will come. While Vilardi won't be on this list anymore when these prospects are peaking, other teams' fans will be irked about Kupari, Thomas and others still being on the list. When it comes to "outside the NHL" talent, the Kings are by far the best outfitted team in the league. When it's under 22, probably not so much. Also take into account that Pronman can be a little disconnected from things west of Toronto and south of the 49th parallel.

Pronman is the single worst "reputable" writer in the business and has been so since his ESPN days.

I can't dismiss this opinion though. You'd certainly like to have seen one guy really jump out and become a star. But given the last couple years of hockey, i think the door is still open for that to happen.

He doesn't have Chromiak, Shafigullin, or Andre Lee in there. and the only goalie is Villalta.
