Vancouver just won a meaningless game and jumped over the Kings in the final standings. Kings now sit at #7 , add in Seattle and that pushes LA to #8 . The draft lottery is next month so we wont know the final order until then.

If the Kings remain at #8 they're going to get a chance to draft an impact prospect. Unfortunately the top 4 defensemen in the draft are projected to be off the board by #8 but if by some miracle Brandt Clarke is still available I think he's the no brainer pick at #8 .

Great skater, very high hockey IQ, great passer, right shot. He slots perfectly into the Kings prospect pool but it might take a draft day trade to acquire him.

Just one more loss and we'd be at #5

Very frustrating but that's exactly what this team is at its core. I think this is the year we've got the ammo to move up if Blake can find a dance partner. Would San Jose move down a spot or two if Blake takes Evander Kane's huge salary off their books? What about Columbus and Gustav Nyquist? Could Blake get Seattle to move down a handful of slots for two or three quality prospects to fill up their empty cupboard?

What day next month is the draft lotto?

If we're trading prospects, it better be for real players and not to draft another 18 year-old. Especially in the crazy COVID year.

For those wondering, we have about a 1 in 8 chance of moving up into the top 2. Overwhelming odds are we will pick 8th or 9th, with a very small chance (3%) of dropping to 10th. Getting the 3rd through 7th pick in the lottery is not possible.

Worst case Wallstedt is available and then I think you have to go that route. Would make an affordable 1/2 punch with Cal for the next 5 years. Cal on his extension and Wallstedt on an entry level would be very savvy cap management. None of the Kings current goalie prospects have stood out. It's a major need.

If he's off the board you'll have one of Clarke / Johnson / Guenther screaming out.

Put the envelope in the freezer, yo!

IMO, there really is an outstanding top 6 D-men in the 2021 Draft,

Owen Power
Brandt Clarke
Simon Edvinsson
Luke Hughes
Carson Lambos
Daniil Chayka

Honorable mention:
Corson Ceulemans

If we are stuck at the #8 or #9 pick, we may not get ANY of those top 6.
(Personally, I'd probably take a high-scoring FW over Ceulemans, if it came to that).

If we can make some trade and move up into the top 5 or 6 spot,
then we're in business, and could end up
with the likes of Lambos or Chayka.

IMO, Clarke would be ideal for our needs (offensive spark and potential for point production/domination),
But he'll go in the top 3 or 4, no later.

It pains me to think of the Dunks having the 2nd pick (most likely) and getting
somebody awesome. They wouldn't take Clarke, though (Drysdale already IS a flashy Right-shot D-man).

I would be delighted with Lambos, personally.

This source (below) rates him as #13 . We should be so lucky.
IMO, Lambos will absolutely go top 10, and probably top 7 to 8.

Unless Kings get 1st or 2nd, I would dangle that pick to get a really nice Forward or two from cap strapped and Pick starved teams.

I really don't disagree with this. I'm sure our amateur scouts can find a gem at 8,9 or 10, but it's a total crap shoot with the limitations in games and on scouting. In an uncertain year, go with certainty. A good NHL player who fits a need may be the smarter choice.

We can probably still get a late first rounder by taking on a bad contract from a cap strapped team.

I like this from The Athletic.

Seriously, if the Kings win the lottery their ping pong ball should just fall out of the raffle contraption, bounce down a Plinko board, and then drop directly onto a Rube Goldberg machine where it keeps rolling and rolling all the way to Kevyn Adams to complete the Eichel trade.

The one thing that worries me about Eichel is his health. He's probably going to be fine, but considering the haul it would take to get him, I would have some serious reservations.

Was that in an article or the comments?

Nevermind, I see it was the DGB article, great read.

My concern is that he has Lanny McDonald's hair and number but does he have his heart?

Not this again, Please, just say NO to Eichel.
