2025 Draft lottery

Lost in all the Blake is out frenzy was the NHL draft lottery. Islanders (no GM) won, jumping nine spots thanks to the lottery Monday, while Utah Hockey Club went from No. 14 to No. 4. The Boston Bruins fell two spots in the draft lottery, landing at No. 7 despite finishing with the league's fifth-worst record.
Kings pick 27th, then not again until 91. It'll be hard to stock the farm with these picks, but that's what a 2nd place finish gets ya.
The new Kings GM will have some work to do this offseason.

So Gary Bettman didn't rig it, like he does with officiating (according to EDM fans)? I would think he would want the Kings to pick higher in the draft since they're hosting this year. hahaha /sarcasm

I'll wager that the Kings will try to move up in the draft. I don't know how though.....it's difficult to get a 2nd rounder these days.

Among prospect rankings this year, I see that Porter Martone really looks like he's a player the Kings need: a power forward type of player at 6"3, 208 lbs who plays RW and has the skills and intangibles to drive the play and change the complexion of a game. His playing style is comparable to that of Perry. If the Kings were to land him at the upcoming draft, it will work a lot of wonders. Unfortunately, given the Kings' current position at the draft, it's quite likely that another team will snatch him up before LA does, so LA will have to find another player who's similar to Martone if Martone is selected by another team before us.

Other potential power forwards to watch are Michael Misa, James Hagens, Malcolm Spence, Jakob Ihs-Wozniak, Caleb Desnoyers, Jake O'Brien, and Justin Carbonneau. Either one of them will serve LA quite well if Martone is taken before LA. And it's no secret that I have a biased preference for power forwards. Problem is, with Blake out as GM, who will be the next Kings GM and will he be willing to look after these types of players in the draft? If he chooses players that emphasize more on speed and skill without that much grit in their game, I will cringe.

Problem is most of those players will be off the table by the time the Kings pick.

I actually like Milton Gastrin as an eventual successor to Danault, who likely will be available by the time the Kings pick. He's not the physical presence we are looking for, but he has a strong 2-way game, high work ethic, routinely wins puck battles, is strong in the faceoff circle and has received a lot of praise for his leadership. He's also an excellent skater.

With Kopi eventually retiring, we will need a strong faceoff center and Gastrin could fill that role, along with becoming an elite shutdown center, in the future, for our second line.

Durzi is a gamer. We don't have enough of those.

We have yet to see him being an integral part of a playoff team and performing as a top 2 D-man there. Do we want to build a solid team or a Cup contender? We already have a solid team. We need Willie Mitchells, not Sean Durzis.

He'd be a good spark as a 3rd pairing guy and PP presence, but guys like that usually cost too much too quickly because of their offensive numbers.
