Big Save is Back. 1 year extension for David Rittich

I expected one of the two to be signed, wonder if this means Talbs is the odd man out? That's all assuming the Kings plan on going after a bigger name goalie in the off season.

I don't know if too much can be read into this. He was signed to a one-way contract last year for $875,000 to be the third option. It could end up being the same again, although I think he's proven to be a capable backup.

A 3rd goalie was needed because nobody knew how Erik Portillo would handle being a 1st year pro. Portillo just finished a great rookie season and he’s in the midst of an excellent playoff run. He will unquestionably be the 3rd goalie should the Kings need one next season.

Especially since LGKers were calling Portillo a bust after the rookie camp.

One of my favorite training camp LGK overreactions was in 2013. Matt Frattin was acquired in a trade with Toronto. He put together an outstanding training camp and LGK had him on the 1st line playing ahead of Dustin Brown. Frattin went on to score 2 goals in 40 games before being part of the Gaborik trade. lol

You mean "hot spot" Frattin, more interested in all the beach spots than playing meaningful hockey

Is copper signed for another yr? If not I think it would more likely be talbot.

He's not, but with this management, I can see them signing him to another deal since he never really got to "prove himself" this past season with the injury.

Happy to retain Rittich at that salary.

Gustavsson will be available. Hockey Wilderness speculating they have to sell low as it’s a hot goalie market this offseason.

He has two years left at 3.75M. Wild are really lacking bottom 6 centers. Could Lizzotte be enough? Or Lizotte and Grundstrom/Kaliyev? Pieces Kings won’t keep anyway so flip for a goalie who should be a better option than Talbot without breaking the bank. Have Portillo back him up 25-26.

Gustavsson is very interesting. I also wouldn’t mind Grubauer from Seattle. He finished the season strong.

Didn’t even think of Grubauer. Really are a ton of options this summer.

My first choice is Vejmelka, and he’ll be moved eventually, but don’t think it’ll happen just yet.

It’s a buyers market for sure. I have full faith that Blake will get a good starting goalie for next season. My concern is that he trades for a goalie with a large cap hit when it isn’t necessary. There’s so many good to very good goalies that won’t come with a 4-5M cap hit.

Now it gets real interesting if Blake is willing to grab that overpaid goalie and the other team is willing to eat cap hit plus include another asset.

One of the more compelling storylines this summer for sure, and an area where the team actually appears to have some talent in identifying talent. Copley, Rittich, and Talbot all turned out to be great signings for what they were. It was a relief they didn’t resign Korpi.
