Cihar Named World Juniors MVP

Oh dang, I had no idea it was R.E.M serious. Apologies.

C'mon the Kings have always been trash, this season our love language is overtime losses. That's new, which is something...

All is not (OT) lost! But if it is, just pop over to the media board and the guys and I could compile a song list for 1)drinking the soul out of the afternoon 2) mood changers or 3) funny funeral procession songs (e.g. "It's raining men", "Double Dutch Bus", "Alive & Kicking").

I don’t understand the fervor to trade this kid. Trade him for what? Grasping at straws to squeak into the playoffs, only to be shown the door again in the first round?

Sometimes, smaller guys do end up being the next Wyatt Johnston, Brayden Point, or Seth Jarvis, even if they’re not extremely quick skaters, or overly physical.

I think the Kings largest problem has been trying to remain competitive around aging veterans who require roster spots, and other veterans to supplement that effort. No space for kids to grow on the job, so lots of these guys stagnated in the lower level. Perhaps, if left down in lower levels for too long, they stagnant to the point that their growth is permanently stunted. I’m not saying this is always the case, but look at the way teams like Anaheim. San Jose, and Chicago are throwing lots of their youngsters right into the mix, and getting them seasoned to the NHL level, WHILE they’re still in their ‘development’ phase. I think -that- is the new NHL, more than any other debates topics like size vs skill etc.

I think this kid might be a keeper. He has shown all the right instincts and has talent plus vision. I wouldn’t be in a hurry to unload him this season. Let’s see how he does in the Memorial Cup playoffs.

Well, that's all fine and dandy, but if Ken doesn't want to rebuild/retool, or doesn't get the green light to rebuild/retool, which IMO is very likely...then when and where does Cihar come in? The Kings historically and also currently do not like to fast track young players, with Clarke being a rare exception. I have a feeling there will be a "marching order" where current AHLers get the nod even if Cihar performs really well this season and then in camp.

I'm against trading him. That said, if he'd be a piece to acquire a long term solution for #1C in, let's say, Elias Pettersson...then it could be wise to trade him. OR maybe you trade Greentree since you have Cihar. That's also an option...but he's having a down year. One wonders how much that impacts his trade value...

It's a good thing he'd be able to play in the AHL next season, though. Cihar-Lombardi-Greentree...sounds spicy. Lombardi could be another gem in the rough.

I agree, and I’m definitely not saying he’s untradable. The Kings should trade -anyone- on their roster, or in the pipeline, for a true #1 center, or high end #1 defender.

There are caveats, of course. The mileage you’d get out of said number one center is important. That is to say, even though Ryan O’Reilly -could- potentially come aboard and be our number one center, I’m not sure we should be unloading too much future potential for a guy who’s only got a couple years of tread left.
