Clague and Frk on waivers (and others)

Frk is old(er) and made of glass. Clague had to push someone out of a job and never did.

The rest of those guys were AHL bound anyway.

You're likely right... especially with making the Clague decision right now. They could have waited if they were on the fence with him or if he was starting to show something.... still always makes me nervous though. I'd suck as a GM, that much I know.

The only one I'm remotely concerned about losing is Clague but the fact that they left him exposed and have now put him on waivers tells you a lot.

Clague needs ice time. If he's going to ever break into the league either for the Kings or some other team it won't happen until he proves he's too good for the AHL. He's not even close to that level yet. He won't get claimed. He's going back to Ontario and he needs to understand his NHL window is rapidly closing so the time for him to show what's he's got is today.

If I was Seattle, I'd take this opportunity to course correct and take Clague from the Kings. Ottawa could make sense too. Obviously, the coaching staff and Blake et al. know way more about Clague than I do, but it just concerns me to see Edler and Maata taking away spots. They are guys with no future with this team. I would've rather missed the playoffs personally and tried out all the D we had. Defencemen do take a bit of time to develop and with them out of waivers I would have rather seen Wolanin and Clague get regular ice time to see if they can make it or not.

Management is orders of magnitude more interested and set on making the playoffs than throwing minutes at an unproven and as of yet a quite unimpressive Kale Clague. Edler and Maata suck but they give you a much better chance to win playing bottom minutes.

Sounds like Frk may be on his way to Anaheim.

Ugh I hope not but it would be nice to see him get a shot getting regular minutes in the NHL and with Anaheim's current roster he could likely do so (provided he remains healthy).

Totally get it and we're not talking about potential superstars here, but just hoping we're not sacrificing the plan to squeak in. Ultimately, these guys have had many chances and like I said, management/coaching has watched them way more than any of us, so I'm sure it'll be fine.

The positive for Clague is that he'll get the chance to get a lot of playing time in Ontario. The cold reality is no team wants him on their roster and at least two teams (Seattle and Colorado) view MacDermid as the better player.

I guess the other thing is that if you have any faith in Frk or Clague, this was a smart way to move them down. Typically it's the lesser known, were-never-going-to-make-it types that get waived at this stage. This seems like a wise gamble that teams will have too many decisions left to make to consider taking another teams players right now.

It always seems to me to be the most depressing day of a player's life if they don't get claimed. Although, I would be quite happy to make AHL salary and play hockey for my career. At least they have career AHLer Brett Sutter down there as a support system. That guy is a trooper, especially considering his family legacy.

Nowadays teams look at the Kings waiver wire and probably say to themselves. ?If these players can?t make the Kings lineup, they have zero chance to play here.?

It will be very interesting to see if the next group waived faces the same fate. Would you claim Lizotte, Wagner, Grundstrom, Matta or Strand?
