GDT ***Colorado Avalanche vs LA Kings Opening Night GDT - 10/7/25 7:30pm on ESPN***

They were at the opposite end from where I sit, but kinda feel like a couple of those Avs goals were savabl
I thought the rebound he gave up on the 3rd goal was a little too juicy, however, Lehkonen is one of the few players in the league that can battle that hard through the D and bury that.

That being said, I thought Kuemper was fine. Certainly other pressing issues to address...

Finished the game..

Ew.

She said "shinny". I thought the exact same thing, but always have captions on in my house. And "shinny" was the word she used. Not shiny, shinny. lol

I replayed it 5 times and my wife and I 100% heard sh*tty lol. But maybe... w/e a "shinny" is. Google says shinny is another word for shimmy.. which I don't think makes much sense in context? But anyways.. that game was sh*tty.

well, that's good that a couple people have said the goals were not on Kuemper. There was a lot of traffic in front of the net on all of them (or 3/4) from what I remember.

Shinny hockey is just pickup hockey - just people getting together to have fun - no refs, no hitting, lots of beer drinking

One game. Not the greatest effort/result. Move on to the next game. Too much "sky is falling" bs already.
Every year the first 10 games are a crapshoot. There’s such a thing as a negative fan bias also. If someone judged any team this intensely after game 1 it’d be way over the top. That doesn’t change just because it’s the team we root for and follow closely.

It’s not that the sky is falling. It’s that the sky fell years ago and nothing changes or gets better.

^^^ This ^^^

I think a problem for the Kings this year is the fact that some of the other teams that missed the playoffs have improved this year more than the Kings have. Also, last year some of those teams under-performed, while the Kings maybe over-performed.

4 years/playoffs in a row losing to the same team playing the same exact style and the Kings refuse to adapt. It’s maddening. Even if this team amasses 100 points in the regular season the play style and roster has an absolute ceiling.

They simply are not built to do anything beyond make the playoffs. They aren’t good enough to win anything.

I agree, but my point was they may not even make the playoffs this year. They could easily finish 4th in the pacific and not make a wild card spot.

To be fair, it's not like they haven't tried. Andersen, Marner, Raitanen just in the last few months. Can't make players come here.

I agree that one game doesn't make a season, but when the game seems to confirm the pessimism and problems everyone brought up during the off season it makes it hard not to feel down.
I guess my expectations aren't that high and didn't need any confirmation of the issues. They are clear to see for everyone. While I expect them to be a playoff team, there are too many teams that are much better than the Kings on paper. The real disappointment will be if they fail to make the playoffs.

It’s a bit more nuanced than that. It sucks having to face the same team four years in a row, especially one that honestly has a lot of teams’ numbers in the playoffs. Look at Dallas.

Year 1 and 4 Kings were legitimately close to beating the Oil. Year 1 I believe they would have beaten CAL. Sure COL would sweep them but how different is our conversation these last few years after a WCF berth?

Last year we all know what happened. They win that round though and they’re most likely losing in the SCF.

I know this is all coulda woulda shoulda, but you want your front office to put together a team with a chance to win. Kings have had a chance to win against a playoff monster 2 out of 4 years.

One more thing - they really opened up their offense against EDM last year. They didn’t just play the exact same way. It’s all mega frustrating but it’s not as cut and dry as it appears on paper.
