Tomas Sandstrom (1991)was the last 40 goal scorer (45 actually) for your franchise.

I'm gonna need you to come in on Saturday. Oh, oh, and I almost forgot. Ahh, I'm also gonna need you to go ahead and come in on Sunday, too.

Thomas Sandstrom was an amazing hockey player, we still haven?t had a player like him since.
They made the original no crease rule partly because of him.

Luc Robitaille scored 63 goals in the 92-93 season.

Deadmarsh was in the same mold, although he didn't score as much. Two of my all-time favorite Kings.

Pfft. That's what my jokes need, a fact checker. J/k Sober. I purposely left off Wayne (50) and Lucky (63) because, eff them they have statues. And, attainable goals, right? In 30 years, someone should have potted 40 goals. =) The Kings need to get on that.

Anze Kopitar almost hit the mark in 2017-18 with 35 goals and 57 assists (92 points). A great regular season, Kopi was also a +21. In the playoffs unfortunately he went flat with 1 and 1 for 2 points in 4 games.

Is that 40 goals on the settle for less Los Angeles Kings?

No shade, no T (Drag queen for: I am not making fun of you, merely stating the truth in an abrasive way).

My point: Hold these gutless pukes responsible. (no translation, I'm just being a pill).

So basically the whole time I've been a Kings fan.

2012AmIRight? Lolz. :hockey2:

2011 Playoffs on right now on NHL Network. LAK vs SJ
Fun again watching those 2011 baby kings play not knowing what happens the year after.
Hope to see the playoffs again soon with the new crop.

Side note from the replay = I miss David Courtney…a lot.

I'm actually far more concerned about the lack of offense from the blueline than the lack of goal scorers up front. I think up front we have enough talent to collectively get the goals we will need, even if no forward has a breakout season. But the blueline is basically just Drew and Walker. A far cry from the Doughty, Voynov, Muzzin and Martinez days.

Sure, defense and whatnot. But without being disrespectful about your contentment with our current forwards (pretty sure the algorithm will get a Kings sales rep to call you today, don't pick up). Name a finisher?

Hey, look at us, Blake went out and got a third line shoot-first guy to say encouraging things to Kempe in Swedish and a second line center that will stabilize our team's top six but, they just realigned the division. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the Kings place 29th in scoring 5 on 5? Now we're in a division with the McDavids, Calgary and the Seamonsters and you don't think we need someone to light the lamp on the reg?

oof.

Stay with me on this one, remember the all-star game and Kopitar had Tom Hertl on his wing...mmmmm....goooaaaallls. Just saying, that also sells tickets and jerseys. Yes, I'm harping and no, I'm not expecting a sudden change but let's call a spade a spade. Where's my "bread man" Blake?
[/rant]

Swear, my next 10 posts will be goofy and ridiculous. Sample: I've been trapped inside for over a year and still haven't even started watching the third season of Westworld, are they on the moon?

Sure, defense and whatnot...

Since there isn't much else to talk about (i dare not venture into the Kane thread), i would argue that the problem really is two fold with the Kings. They do seem to lack some true snipers up front. But their lack of a modern defenseman on the backend cannot be ignored. I don't think we've had a defenseman with real vision and creativity on the backend since McBain (and no im not arguing he was a great player, simply that he had really good offensive instincts/vision in transition and the attacking zone). Doughty is/was a great player, and brings a lot to the table, but he's not an elite offensive threat and i don't think his vision with the puck is elite (my opinion). The Kings simply do not have what most top tier teams have, and that's a guy that can not only join the rush from the back end, but lead it when the opportunity arises. They don't have a modern, highly skilled, offensive defenseman, and it really hurts their transition and PP in my opinion. I know we're looking at 5v5 here, but the team needs more goals... from every part of the game.

If other teams don't respect the two guys on the blue line, they can spend more time focusing on the 3 guys down low. They can take away options and clog lanes preemptively, because there isnt anybody on the King's blueline that will make them pay for those reads. It would certainly be nice to have production from both groups, but I think finding an elite D has got to be the bigger priority for this team.

And there is not one left shot defenseman anywhere in the system with anything approaching high-end offensive skills. On the right, we have quite a few possibilities at least (most importantly Clarke and Faber), but on the left, there's literally no one.

even still, those guys are unlikely to play anytime soon. Man i wish one of our prospects would just break out this coming season. Just one, high end talent. Im begging you hockey gods. We need goals...

Not directed at you, but I find it HILARIOUS that analytic nerds say Doughty's contract is THE worst in the NHL, while ACTUAL NHL PLAYERS rated him 4th best D last season and THE BEST D in 2019-20.

I suspect that other teams respect Doughty (and probably Anderson too)...not so much the next best offensive D.

Yes. And my post above is giving Faber too much credit in terms of offensive skill. He's more of an all around player, not an offensive threat like Clarke.

We are going to have to make a trade eventually for an established d-man on the left side. But the stated goal of adding an elite-level d-man is just about impossible, because teams are signing their players to 8 year, $9 million deals suddenly. Unless someone like Dahlin refuses to sign a new deal and tries to force a trade, we are going to have to go second tier. Dahlin's going to ask for $10 million, whether he's worth it or not.

i mean I agree with you, i think having him at the top of the worst contracts list seems pretty ridiculous, but as it pertains to generating goals and offense, i feel like an honest assessment is that he is not elite. His game is more rounded. And im sure he'll improve some, but i dont think anybody looks at Mikey Anderson and considers him much of an offensive threat. And that's the part of the game im looking at right now. Im not suggesting these two guys (or anybody on the kings) arent respected for their overall game, but you can't tell me that opposing teams are circling anybody on the Kings blueline, and telling the team, "we need to watch out for this guy. He'll burn you in so many ways...".

Im talking simply about goal scoring and elite offensive skills. Are you suggesting anybody on the Kings blueline is in that upper echelon of today's modern defenseman (strictly from an offensive standpoint)?

There's no doubt that he's not an elite offensive D.

Agreed. But as a top pairing I think they're very good.

Not from an offensive standpoint. But the poll of NHL players doesn't lie. His peers see him as an elite D.

Nope. But Doughty has been asked to do too much with too little around him ever since Muzzin was traded. His peers have put him in the top 4 for 4 seasons in a row. It seems like the criticism of him is completely unwarranted.
