There is no way they protect Brown. Also, Seattle isnt taking him.
I hate to say it, but I'd be fine leave to DD unprotected as well. We are not competing for a cup in the next 1-2 years, and his cap hit is rough.
I'd be very surprised if they left Brown exposed. I don't think they don't will risk losing him. Blake has built a stable of redundancy, so regardless of who gets grabbed (Andersson, Grundstrom, Frk, Lemieux, Clague, Maatta) they're all immediately replaceable within the current system. IMO, it's really pretty brilliant what they've done to prepare for this.

I cannot fathom a scenario where Brown gets selected. He's old, he's bounced back since he was left unprotected for Vegas but he's still not playing well enough to justify his high cap hit. Seattle would be stupid:
1) not to take someone younger with more possible upside
2) not to take someone cheaper so that they can better use the cap space
I think it will be Clague or Lizotte.
I'm sure Blake and Ron Francis at some point have had a discussion along the lines of: "Any interest in Brown, or any chance you'd pick him"? If the answer is not a resounding no, he might be protected, but I suspect there is no way he is taken.
From the Francis perspective though - why do this? Say you want Brown - you don't want them to know that. Say you want Clague or AA or whoever - well if you say we don't want Brown, then they don't protect them, giving Blake another spot to hide the player Francis wants. Either way, if I'm Francis I say I want Brown. If it's true - Blake needs to protect him. If it's a lie - then Francis says okay give me a draft pick and I won't take him lol.
