That is a team that not only matches us player for player, line for line, all night long. The difference was, they were bigger and pushed us around.

THAT?S why size matters in the NHL, and come playoff time, it?s just going to get worse.

BTW?If your wife tells your otherwise, she?s lying to you.

I was listening to NHL network Sirius channel driving home and they were talking about this game saying Boston might, MIGHT, be big and physical enough to handle Tampa Bay and make some noise in the East playoffs.

My gut sank.

They did the same thing to Colorado about a week ago.
Don't tell me a healthy Boston is the 4th best team in their Division

Welp since condescending and smarmy is the theme of this thread, DeBrusk with the natural hatty gets a sarcastic slow clap from the Kings fan in me but a real clap from the hockey fan in me. Jesus Jake.

It was also a pretty good indication of how the Kings would look in a physical playoff series. The Danault line especially has some prep to do given its lack of size on the wings.

So....its not the angle of the dangle?

Also a stark reminder (as if it wasn't known already) that the Kings are NOT yet Cup contenders. PLayoff team? Hopefully, but not Cup contenders, not yet. But, that was expected going into this season.
By the way, Calgary's 10 game winning streak was stopped by a 7-1 trouncing by the Canucks, who are no where near the level Boston is. I agree with comments above that, if healthy, and if Swayman can play well, the Bruins would be the team "no one wants to meet in the playoffs".

Yes Kings will need more skilled players with size when they are more competitive. But don’t think last night’s game says much about this year’s playoff picture.

This year if they make it in as a Wild Card team they will get out-Suttered by Calgary or out-skilled by Colorado. If they place in the division they have a chance against Edmonton or Vegas and then will lose against Calgary second round.

Hey, the Kings only lost by one touchdown. Yep, it was a bad game and also a learning experience for the young guys. The Kings should just keep pushing through the rest of the regular season and then really put their ears back for the playoffs. If LA can manage to get a higher seed and play a lower seed in the playoffs, they may have a chance to go rounds. Most of these guys have never played in the NHL playoffs so it will definitely be an eye opener.

CALGARY has size as well. Good ol' Sutter - likes those big defenseman.

Funny - how the NYI out hit the Kings Saturday 26-12 & got blown out, yet the blown out Kings were "only out hit" 33-30 Monday.
To go back further in the DeLorean - the Ducks out hit the Kings 31-18...and got crushed.

soooo...speed kills?

I'm not sure there are a lot of conclusions to be drawn from a single game.

I was trying to make a hockey reference with "dangle". With the Kings not having big, strapping bodies this year, they'll have to work the angles, with dangles.

You mean Boston shouldn't start planning their parade just yet? :) I agree. Let's pump the brakes on the gloom and doom.

Agree to a point on the pumping the brakes. Last night was very much of lack of size on the wings BUT also a lack of puck possession AND a goalie who was so hyped he overplayed the puck time and again especially in the first period on the first three goals. Overplayed and took himself out of position. He needs to get back to his understated game where he doesn't need the spectacular save. It's good they play Boston again so quickly - to show themselves they learned something from last night and to excise some demons.

All this said they need to get size both on the wings of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th lines as well as defensive size at probably the 2, 4 and 6 positions. Size (and ability to possess the puck) still matters. Running and gunning will only get you so far ....

BOS beat the Avs 5-1 last month. MON beat the Leafs 5-2 last month. the Nucks beat Calgary 7-1, 5 days ago, whatever....

Let's see how next Monday looks, that'll matter more.

Without getting too deep here, because I?m on my phone and this thing will log me out at the blink of an eye, all I could think of when the kings were playing the Islanders was 2012 playoffs. Then, again while watching the Bruins thrash us last night all I could think of was how the Kings dominated the 2012 playoffs. That?s to say, im not sure it?s so much size as it is smother. The kings were big during their cup runs, no doubt, but they also were so aggressive and swarming that I was sure they would take offensive zone stick penalties or holds nearly every other play. Alas, they don?t call penalties like that in the playoffs, they just chaulk it up to good aggressive physicality. That?s what the bruins reminded me of last night.. swarming, smothering, choking. The Kings had no time in the offensive zone, and very little in the neutral zone. They even pressed like mad on the forecheck causing turnovers, like the bad cross zone pass by Anderson that ended up in the back of our net

Well said. Heck, in 2012, we made St Louis quit trying because it was so oppressive.
But, no need to dwell on it at all. Every team has them, in every sport.
The games have a new intensity from now until the end of the season.
Time for the vets to share that experience so this team can grow.
