Free agency/off season

Of course it’s about winning culture. Even a player based in an income tax free state generally only plays half his games there. The rest of the season is played in various states and provinces that aren’t tax free. So the tax advantage is roughly half what it’s perceived to be.

Nobody was breaking down the doors to sign with the Panthers to secure 8% extra on their paycheck back before the team had excellent management, stable ownership and a shot at the cup every season.
FL and TB are also masterfully constructed rosters with excellent drafting and elite coaches.

FL is a particularly fascinating case. Bennett and Forsling were middling players who FL brought in as UFAs. Forsling was an RFA CHI didn’t qualify and was then waived by CAR. Bennet was scoring 26, 27 points a season. These weren’t highly sought after guys by any stretch. But they turned out to be key parts of the Cup winning teams.

Bobrovosky was a massive swing. 7 years at 10M a year. Nevermind tax rates how many teams are willing to commit to that on a 30 year old goalie?

Of course the tax rate helps. It helps keep guys like Bennett in FL on a team friendly deal. But like anything else a whole lot has to go right for ultimate success. Take your pick between FL, TB and VGK and you’ll see an aggressive, bold and very smart management team.

Yep. And in the end how many more Cups has Florida won with their zero tax advantage over a team like the Kings? None.

And at this point if Florida is inquiring about a player that a GM is considering trading away for a bag of puck or not extending him, they're going to change their mind. I wonder if their modus operandi will work long term. This season they get a pass with Barkov on the IR, but Bob's career is derailing and they have bottom 5 prospect pool quality, so it will really show if their GM can keep his magic up.

Federal taxes apply to players who play for teams in all the states, so that makes no difference as to where they play.

It actually not. I don't know how other states do it but in California it's very safe. Every ballot has its own bar code. So if you mail in more than one ballot or you mail one & vote in person with another ballot, they only count the latest one & the others are invalidated. Also you have to sign your ballot & your signature has to match the one from when you registered. Which is why signing your name is better than producing ID. A person can get a fake ID but they can't reproduce someone else's signature. There's also a system called Ballot Trax that emails you when you get your ballot, when it's received, & when the vote is counted. I've voted by mail even before 2020 & I wouldn't want to go back to standing in line at a polling place. The only drawback to mail-in is it might take too long getting mailed. But you can also drop it off at a city hall or county office.

Also, I think the no state tax thing is overblown as far as giving teams an advantage. But if they can figure out a system such as only counting net income I'd be fine with that. I just wouldn't want to see states lowering or eliminating state income tax to appease rich athletes or anyone. And when states have no income taxes they're either getting their revenue from somewhere else or they're not providing services for their citizens.

Yeah right!
Ballot trax?
Is that owned by Smartmatic or dominion or Soros.

I don't think you independently researched any of this and I know the claims you regurgitated , already.

But don't worry it helped prop 50 go your way. LOl

I am definitely a little envious of teams around the league that continue to benefit from players signing sweet heart deals in the sunset of their careers. For instance, Marchand resigning in FL last year, the recent Malkin signing, or even guys in their prime like McDavid who def did not bend Edmonton over a barrel.

Malkin was more affordable than Kopi for the past 12 years, but Kopi was quite a lot more affordable during that crucial Cups era.

I think quite a few other Kings' players signed reasonable contract extensions without holding the team at the gunpoint. Byfield, Mikey are bargains now, Kempe was an absolute steal with his previous contract and could've easily said "f*** you I want that money now" but he signed what I would consider a very fair value contract. He earns less than DD still does, and DD signed his contract, what, 25 years ago when the cap was, what, 2/3 of what it was this season?

It will be interesting what happens with Clarke.

"Is that owned by Smartmatic or dominion or Soros." If you knew who owned it you wouldn't name 3 different entities who are not related to each other other than being far-right boogeymen. But the answer is none of them own Ballot Trax. And if independently researched means go down the rabbit hole of a bunch of conspiracy theory nut jobs, then no I didn't. And if you think that video debunked or refuted anything then you didn't actually watch it. It showed ballots in 1 county, not the whole state, where people could see your vote if you folded it wrong. Actually they could see that you voted but not who or what it was for.

Three names for you,

- SGO Corp.
- Sequoia Voting (product of Smartmatic, had to be sold off due to being under Fed Investigation for ties to Communists in Venezuela. Sold to a new company called Dominion).
- Lord Mark Malloch-Brown (Soros' good buddy, worked at World Bank, UN, then Chaired SGO Corp (Smartmatic) and ran/runs a bunch or Soros's orgs.

Plenty of relations. Sure Soros does not own either company, but plenty of involvement from his team.

Go ahead and message me if you want.
I disagree with everything you said and know Doctors receive money from government programs on the gravy train.
But I received a warning so I will not converse further here.
Thank you

I just keep thinking about the Heritage Foundation (co-founded by Newt Gingrich) that did an exhaustive study to prove how rampant voter fraud was and… found no evidence of voter fraud.

Woolley is thru to Memorial Cup final again this year. 6’ 5”, 220 lbs., 20 years old. Talent at both ends of the ice. Plays big with a bit of a mean streak. He may only need 1 year in Ontario.

Sir , I have Bill Guerin on line 1.

Thank you for digging .
I did an AI search but very interestingly it would not provide a summary .
It treated my query as if I wanted a search result even though I asked AI .
Anyway I will say no more here, but anyone can message me.
Thank you

Florida has played 26 less seasons than Kings

But that's irrelevant. In the cap era (which is the only time period that's relevant when it comes to tax haven states) the Kings won the same amount of Cups and reached the same amount of Stanley Cup finals. And not just that - in general the Kings were a considerably more successful team in the cap era. Florida was out of the playoffs for 12 out of 14 years before they finally became a playoff factor in the Covid years where the eventual Cup winner puzzle was starting to get assembled. That's a very long while.

Tampa is a better example of a successful cap era "dynasty", but then again...they're 4 first round exits in a row kind of team at this moment. It will be curious if they manage to assemble a true contender again with the current core or they will have to tear it down and rebuild. My guess is they're going to have to rebuild, as I don't think UFA market will be stacked soon enough for them to replenish their talent that way with their tax advantage. Their team isn't getting any younger either and similarly to Florida and the Kings their farm system sucks, too.

IMO by far the biggest factor in the short-term future fortunes of these 3 teams will be developing middling prospects and making good trades...if they fail a rebuild will be necessary. Tax advantage/disadvantage will be largely irrelevant.
