As expected, Drew Doughty’s injury was all the talk at Toyota Sports Performance Center earlier today. His upcoming absence from the team’s lineup found its way into nearly every conversation.
“He’s like the biggest part of our team, honestly, off the ice and on the ice,” Brandt Clarke shared. “I’d love to [still] have his input on how I’m doing or how he thinks I’m doing. So, I’ll definitely still be talking to him all the time. He obviously has wisdom for days.”
It’s one of those losses to a team that is nearly immeasurable. It’s far beyond the stats or even things that analytics can measure.
Nonetheless, the team will press forward — as coach Jim Hiller spoke about here.
And part of the revamped Kings lineup will most likely see Clarke getting more minutes, including time on special teams.
“I’m up for the challenge,” he said. “I’m kind of being thrown in the deep end here, but I don’t mind that at all. I’ve done that before in my life, and I’m kind of doing it again now. That’s going to be fun. … I’ve told people this before, I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been in my life right now. I’m ready for what’s to come, for sure.”
Clarke went on to talk about Adam Fox of the Rangers, his plans on the power play, being paired with Joel Edmundson, and more. Be sure to watch the whole interview here:
