Building upon the coaching change that came Sunday morning, Kings GM Ken Holland held a brief press conference to meet with local media. We’ll have a full article up later today. For now, here are a few quick highlights:
#GoKingsGo presser…
Holland was hoping the time off from the Olympic break would be a turning point. Spoke with Hiller and informed him this morning.
Hopes the move will “jolt” the team. DJ told the players it’s a clean slate going forward.

#GoKingsGo presser…
Holland didn't’t like the 2 games before the break or the 2 games after. Move was made regardless of last nights game.
Felt like he needed to make a change with 23 games left. Thinks with games against division opponents coming up they control their own…

#GoKingsGo
Holland asked Matt Greene during the second intermission last night if would be interested in being an assistant coach.

Essentially, he explained how Panarin likely was the Kings big trade deadline deal. They just made it a few weeks earlier than 3/6.

NOTE: The full quote is a little more nuanced, but that’s the gist.
Following the team’s practice on Sunday, a few players reacted to the change:
— Kopitar echoed the “jolt” sentiment (used the same word). Says Hiller fell on the sword and it’s the players responsibility to play better.
— Kempe emphasized he has a lot of respect for Hiller and is saddened for him to go. Despite that, he thinks DJ brings energy as a head coach and hopes it will energize the room.
More to come later. Until then, our earlier article can be found here:
