Intuit Dome: I Bought Nachos With My Face!

Rog or Reg?

Super Star
"Big Brother is watching you...buy beer and nachos"

Those are words I never thought I'd type.

At a concert at the new Intuit Dome Friday, everything from entering the arena to buying concessions is accomplished through facial recognition. A light turns from red to green, not unlike a traffic signal, and you're go to go. No tickets. No phone (you have to download an app). No credit card.

As you enter a concession area, a red light will stop you until your face is recognized, then the light turns green and the door opens.

Grab what you desire off a shelf and exit the area. A green light will reopen the door and let you leave and your account is charged for whatever items are in your possession.

Kinda creepy, but very efficient, to say the least.

"The Future is Now"

Thanks for the report. =o Very stalkerish!

How much did the beer and nachos set you back though? One would think it would be cheaper without having to hire the slow cashier person... but we all know that's not the case lol.

A beer and nachos were $9.95 (you get a $10 concession credit for using the app the first time).

My only complaint about the venue was the Rideshare pickup location three blocks away in a parking structure that none of the drivers could find the entrance to. Otherwise I highly recommend the venue!

Crypto has something similar in a couple locations, it's very much like the Amazon Fresh store model. At crypto, you scan or payment card to enter and cameras follow you and determine what you purchased. You can then walk out a gate when it opens.

Evidently there are a few venues in the country including Citi Field in New York that use facial recognition for entrance and concessions.

Another Innovation I enjoyed at the Intuit Dome was USB chargers in every seat. And man oh man those padded seats are really comfortable!

I've heard pretty much universal praise for it. Gotta believe that's why Crypto is doing some upgrades...which now they need to start replacing seats as our Kings seats are starting to show some wear.

Amazon Fresh scrapped that model. It was mostly dependent on a bunch of people in India looking at video because the actual technology never worked right. I wonder if this "technology" works the same.

What are they using now? We have one getting ready to hope near us and it looked like there were a ton of cameras.

the seat 2 away from mine is about to completely let all the "insides" out. (in 315), but I think the sections closer to the new bar thingy got new seats from what my friend was saying.

I wish they'd put USB chargers in the seats at the Crypt. Instead of sucking the battery life out of my phone, which they do right now.
