Jan Chovan signs PTO

Elite Prospects assessment: Chovan is at his best as more of a supportive two-way forward, capable of playing both as a centre and winger. He’s a solid defensive scanner and committed to giving a quality effort without the puck, using his 6-foot-2(3?) frame and the length it provides as an asset. This is true on the forecheck, too, as he reads defenders’ intentions and intercepts their breakouts.

(y) 55 points in 60 games while also being touted as a 2-way forward. Lets see what he can do at the next level.

All the best to the kid! The Reign are actually good this year right? So that's something.

Reign are still first in the Pacific and will be adding Brz to the roster as well. Hoping to see Ontario make a big splash in the playoffs.

Call me naive, but I think he has the ability to make the team next season at some point. Maybe even out of camp. He has size, is apparently very sound defensively, plays physical and can play in all situations.

I just hope that if he does indeed show up ready, Ken's ego doesn't prevent him from moving/benching Ceci in order to fit in an unproven young player in Bruz...

I hope Ceci’s days as a King are finished after this season.

Would be cool and I could see his coming up later in the season but he still need to work on his game in the defensive zone before being ready.

I actually think Woolley is closer, but Brzustewicz will have a significant impact once he is ready to join the Kings.

Kings should also think of signing Jakub Chromiak.

His defensive game should be better than Clarke's was at the time of his debut in the NHL. Getting sheltered 3rd pairing minutes should limit the pressure at the beginning and enable the coaching staff to develop his game over time.

True, out of camp is unlikely, but as the season goes on I can see it being a possibility. The question is, as I said, if Ken has the guts to pull the trigger on replacing his expensive signing with a 20yo rookie.

An excellent observation about Chromiak. He's Martin's brother. Undrafted, but steadily improving in his post-draft years. It should be a no brainer.

I don't think Ken gives a damn about Ceci, he was plan D. And he's just somewhat overpaid, and overplayed. If he's limited to what he should be, a 3d pair D, he is fine. Third pairing Dmen are not Norris contenders. He's average or better in that role.

And Bruz may even have some offensive pop. He was second on the Knights in points this season.

I heard Brz has improved in his own zone, just wasn't sure how much. If you feel his is ahead of where Clarke was at this stage, then I totally agree with you - bring him up and give him sheltered D3 minutes while allowing him to play point on PP2. They could even rotate him with Ceci if needed.

I worried when they drafted him that he was too similar to Clarke, but his game feels pretty different at this point. He could be exactly the puck carrying D that this team desperately needs.

As to Ken, I think it will heavily rely on whomever is HC next season as he appears to bend to his HC's wishes.

Looks like Stavroff may be in the mix too.

Near 30 goals scored in 35 NCAA games? They should've signed him yesterday. Sure, he's a bit of an overager, but who gives a damn. He's a free asset. Right shot, too.
