Kaliyev Re-Signing per Dreger

Free Kaliyev!!!

Seriously though, I hope Buck Flake and whoever else that had an agenda against him last year give him an actual clean slate.

I still remember clear as day that the Kings were doing just fine until Todd singled out Kaliyev and then the Kings proceeded to go on and lose like 12 out of their next 14 games or whatever it was. Something about that team morale just wasn't right after that.

The Kings not playing Kaliyev has me emoing more than Morrissey, lol. 😩

only way kid gets traded is if he plays well enough attract attention which means the Kings have to be committed to playing him. He could ultimately be put on waivers if the Kings want to cut bait, can’t make a trade and need to free to his spot on the roster.

Can’t wait to give him ice time over a more effective player so Blake can up his trade value to a 5th round pick.

However, to be Devils Advocate against myself, maybe he could rekindle some of the chemistry he had with Turcotte in the past.

Ugh, I've been rooting for him since he got him. Maybe sitting in the press box on IR he can concentrate working on his mental game, while not pouting and or doubting himself when he's up there as a healthy scratch.

Devastating for Arty. Can’t see a future for him in LA.

Immediately speaking, this seriously opens a door for Helenius or Lee to make it out of camp.

Wow, poor guy.

IMO, he has been playing "afraid" for a while now with no confidence and a fear of making mistakes. Which has been causing him to make mistake after mistake. This latest injury probably knocked him down (psychologically) a little bit more IMO. Tough for Arty. Hope he finds a way to get through this latest bump in the road.

Apparently Kyle Burroughs didn't get the memo about not taking out our own players 3 days into training camp.

Kyle Burroughs. Subtraction by addition.

Best guess is that they carry 8 defensemen and 13 forwards, so the real competition here was between Kaliyev, Fagemo, Thomas and Turcotte for three spots. This ends that battle.

Gut wrenching for him as I got the sense both parties had cleared the air and people were rooting for him. I'm hearing broken collarbone out 3-4 months. If that's true I've had that injury and it's ANNOYING because it makes it virtually impossible to sleep as any movement is uncomfortable.

Even if it's just a 1-year contract signing, Blake is now already getting burned for it locking Kali up only for the latter to suddenly get injured in practice. I expected Kali to be traded but apparently Blake was too yellow-bellied to strike a deal with a suitable team. This is on Blake. What a waste.

Reports said the Kings couldn’t even get a fifth-round pick in trade talks for Artie.
Injuries happen in hockey, and they happen in training camp.
Clearly Kalliyev didn’t fit in TM’s system.
It was worth signing him with a new coach since Blake had no takers for a trade.

On one hand, fans want players that are on the cusp of making the team to fight hard to claim a roster spot for themselves, and for the Kings to play a more physical hockey in the future.

On the other, they get upset when a player is injured in training camp scrimmage.

S*** like this happens, and it happens more often when more is at stake and players are asked to be physical. I'm 100% sure it wasn't intentional, most likely not even a result of negligence, but a result of bad luck.

The silver lining here is that the situation with Arty was hardly clear before this happened, there weren't many takers for him or else he would probably be somewhere else already. This allows someone else to get a chance to prove himself when the stakes aren't as high as they are later in the season, and if that someone proves to be at least as effective as Arty (I'm looking at you, Fagemo) there won't be many tears shed when he eventually leaves for a bag of pucks at best...

Oh come on. It's a 1 year, minimum value contract that can be buried in the minors if necessary. The Kings don't have troubles with maximum contracts signed AFAIK so it's not like some hotshot prospect didn't get the contract because of this signing either.

I'm sure he'd get traded if there were takers for a middling pick. For a 6th/7th rounder though might as well keep him if the contract cost is the lowest one possible.

It’s three days, but Helenius is reportedly bringing all the mean this team could ask of him. According to Hiller, he’s clearly “trying to make the team.”

I don’t believe there was ever a scenario where Turcotte, Thomas, or Kaliyev were waived over Fagemo. I do believe there is a scenario where Fagemo could lose his spot again to a surprise player in camp due to a roster injury opening a door.
